Default Gambian Enterprise - 01-03-08, 01:44 PM

Gambian Enterprise is a UK Charity working with the people of Gambia to improve the quality of their life, and assist to develop sustainable micro-businesses. We are in the proccess of working towards official registration status with the Charity Commission, but first we need to raise £5000.

We operate a membership scheme to fund the administration costs, this allows all money donated for projects to go directly to the project. Please help us by becoming a member.

We are actively looking for Trustees to help us run this charity. If becoming a Trustee is something that may interest you, please email us admin@gambianenterprise.com

Good luck trying to find donations for your charity. The world famous Nigerian scammers has made most people in the west not want to give a dime to any african charity.

Completely untrue.

We are getting support, the people & children of Gambia are getting some of the assistance they need. 419 scammers are not even an issue. It is completely unrelated.

Our website is only a week old and already we are making headroads into our fundraising, but to be honest, we recognise that we cant do this alone, we need help. Not just money, but help with publicity, getting the word out about us. Already we have rebuilt a schools toilet block (for 2000 kids) and have found sponsors for 2 children (one of which is 7 years old and had NEVER been to school). We need expert help from professionals that wish to become trustees ( A solicitor and an accountant would be great!).

If you cant help financially, please let everyone you know know about the site, (traffic attracts paid advertisers).

Thanks

I have nothing against supporting charities in Africa. Or telling people about your website. Those 419 scammers are unrelated but they still make people think before giving donations to any African charity. A lot of people consider Africa one big country.

Default Thinking Twice - 01-03-08, 04:31 PM

Everyone should think before giving to any charity, not just an African one.
I want people to think twice, I want them to consider the life they have, I want them to consider Bambo who is 7 and has never been to school, I want them to consider the thousands of Gambian children that can not afford to go to school, I want them to consider the thousands of young girls in The Gambia that still get circumcised.

Yes please... Think twice before giving to any African Charity. It is the ignoring of such problems that does not help.

BlackChat - charities in general, so if you're going to give then give to an African run one.

The truth about the Red Cross

Their knives and their guns could not hold me, their drinks and their drugs could not control me, their education could not school me, their religion could not fool me, their women could never tempt me
their politicians could never rent me, but the babylon daughter still got my pikney

Such ventures as this are essential. It is time that Africans control charities and NGO's.

FUDAA (Front for the Unification and Development of Africa and Arabia | Google Groups) would like very much to work with you. We currently have a micro-finance project in development. Our only obstacles has been getting a license in a certain African country. We are an NGO. But, we are not a charity that depends on donation. In our project, Africans thermselves will be shareholders who actually own equity aand debt. This is new territory for the African Nation.

But, FUDAA is designed to accomodate all types of African organizations. Please bring your charity into the framewrok of FUDAA. This will ultimately lead Daispora participation in the Pan-African Paliament. (http://www.pan-african-parliament.org/default.aspx)

I suspect that the scammers are mostly on CIA payroll. They do these scams to cause confusion within the African Nation, thereby preventing coopration between the African Diaspora and the African Continent.

Better yet, I think the time has arrived when we absolutely must explore new concepts. It is no longer sufficient to simply copy old models of doing things. We must create new models. For instance, hybrids are coming into fashion. Google.com is exploring ways to combine charities with equity finance. One way to avoid scammers is to make it clear that donations are not your intent. As Africans in the Diaspora, we have every right to expect something in return for our money. We do not have to simply give it away. We can expect a return on our investments. Returns are possible because there is a huge demand for products produced in Africa. But, we do not yet have an infrastructure to satisfy that demand. When we invest money in infrastructure development, we should expect a monetary return when the new infrastructure bring new profits.
