MOSS & HIS FORMER MUSIC VIDEO GIRL..turned WIFE:
QUOTE:
several very credible sources have informed me that he and his wife (Alayna Wyatt) are in the midst of divorce. Mainly because Mos has a new chick in his life. She is a Dubai princess named MiMi (real name is supposedly Mariam) that he met at the Dubai Film Festival last week and the paparazzi have always constantly tried to find dirt on this chick. She's very protected (always with a minimum of 2 bodygaurds) and will go bad on anybody attempting to take her pic. She rarely goes out, is rarely photographed, and tries to be a downlow socialite. But now, her secret that she's dating Mos Def is out.
Ohh she got MA degree from YALE...

Man, like I said when he wifed that last chick: I hope he was smart enough to get a prenup, or that quickie marriage and divorce will be costly. Dude's decision-making seems beyond suspect in his personal life at this point.
That being said, it's pretty clear now that bruh is comfortable playing himself in the public eye;very littleself-respect. Another 'studio Afrocentric' indeed. They're not as common as 'studio gangsters,' but much more worthless.

Miles, hypocrisy to this degree is always an issue, man. Especially when you represent a genre of music('conscious rap') that is looked down onwith disdain by many for the 'fake' element that they believe pervades it.
You can't change the fact that on the "Black Star" album Mos glorified sisters("Brown skin lady") and dissed a certain ilk of brother with that movie clip at the beginning of the song about "good hair"yet this choice in his personal life isn't consistent with what he preached. He's leaving himself wide open for attack with this one. I saw the chick he married as a light skin sister and didn't believe he contradicted himself in the racialsense; however, he did in that she was the video model that his ilk put down for being a part of mainstream rap videos. But this chick is clearly Arab, that's not African/Black, no matter how you cut it. That's nowhere close to "chocolate" from whereI sit.
I haven't downloaded the new album so I can't comment on that, but his last album wasstraight trash. I believe your personal life reflects in the quality and substanceof your artwork. Since, I'm obviously a fan of this particular artist abilities/capabilities, you can see where I'm warytowards his mind-set, today, and how it affects/will affecthis art.
Common, Kanye and this dude have all played themselves over the past two years on this issue or similar. I can't speak for your side of the pond, but around these parts their actions do cast doubt on the movement and the brothers within the movement in particular. That's where it goes beyond his "personal choice" and has an affect on therespect theAfricentric movement garners from the people, the youth in particular. These dudes are among the most recognizable mainstream faces/voices for a way of thought in this country(sadly); they must accept some responsibility for their actions in their art and personal lives as well.

@MMD..On the money mate. If we can criticise and rightly so black women when they make choices which are theirs and nobody elses, then by same token it has to apply to black men, especially those who have power and influence.
Rate Moss Def and Talib when they were hot and still like their tunes. Not happy about Ms Fat Booty. Man making a tune primarily reducing a black woman to the size of her arse, while trying to imply or suggest it is some praise of black women. Don't know many brothers, other than some fools or wannabee ****o actors, who would take kindly to be reduced to the size of their cocks. Black men are endowed with far more qualities and attributes than something god gave you in your pants which you have little influence on in terms of its size other than luck and chance.
But ,and I said this in the other thread about that new Magazine who chose that Latino woman of the year over our women. Some of these high profile black males are appalling in their worship of whites and others and their lack of fundamental respect for their own power, never mind black women. Like they have not been born until affirmed by a white or other woman.
Who you place on that platform as a man of power gives power and stature to a woman, regardless of how much she may already have. Is it no wonder our people have so little power when those who have it diminish it with so much ease simply for sexual thrills.
That's why I love Muhammad Ali. He loved women no doubt and love to chase them. But Ali only chased and honoured by doing so...Black Women...He may have regretted his pursuit of so many..but it has or wil not bring shame on him and will not blight his memory or legacy....Because he genuinely loved black women, their personalities and companyand did not chase whites despite some of the most bueatiful white women of the world falling on the knees for him...
Remember this top white model who did a photo shoot with him. Ali she said, was the most sexiest man on the planet and she would have been his at a blink of an eye. Oh yes he was flirtatious and cheeky and gentlemanly....but had no interest at all...
That's how a serious black man who knows what his got operates in my mind. Furthermore, a black man has far more power and influence over a black woman so why you going to weaken your shit by having a white or foreigner?

I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

@Shanny_Bu and you know what I know I had spelt your name wrong but was kinda rushing. Tend to spell most people's name wrong but won't do it again. Promise.
The book is by Thomas Hauser 1992, the Life and Times of Muhammed Ali. Probably can get a newer edition. The part i am talking about is somewhere in the middle in fact there is pictures of Ali in the pool around there somewhere.
@BP said 'No matter what woman he chooses he is still a very important voice in the movement that they call positive hiphop'
BP let me take a liberty and re-phrase that...No matter what you guys think I and plenty others who support the positive hip hop movement think he is a very importantvoice.
Here is my usual response when younger bloods try totell me about the so called positive hip hop movement and I will exclude African Bambatta and PE and others ofmy era. But usually when they talk about Tupac or Naz, about these cats are deep. I usually say as deep asthe pockets in my shorts..and Ican'tput money in them becauseit will get lost..
When you talk about reggae artists of my day then when we talk about deep they were deep on and off record.Even Mr lover man himself Marley, never cock no white girl and I heard they were all over his shit in the US and Canada...
These hip ho cats are seen as deep because most ofthose who are talking and making these assesments generally are superficial themselves..or far too many of them. Coz if you cannot understand the woman on your arm or in publicwith you has a reflection on what you really believe and how far you can be trusted when shit hits the fan...Then you make my point for me...confused3
Marley left his millions, and god was he loaded to Rita, his other women can squable for the rest but they were all Black women. Black women benefitted from him as did his people...in life and death.

Iwant my favoritehip hop artists tostay true to their art form somewhat, RL.A couple of different tracks are okay, but when you basically abandon the genre that birthed your fanbase to make mediocre rock music; it's a slap in the face to your fanbase, andwe're going to have problems. Mos is a MC first and foremost, not a rocker. If the albumhad beenhigh quality rock music; it would have softened the blow, but it was an average rock album at best, with some good but not "Black on both sides" or "Black Star" good hip hop sprinkled in to tease the listener.
If you remember, the time "New Danger" dropped was after the Roots dropped "Phrenology"( which I felt, especially the latter half of the album)and Common dropped "Electric Circus"(whichwas an uneven piece of work, but definitely had its moments and was at least coherent). They all did the same thing: rocked out, to varying degrees, but that's not where their bread is buttered. I was burned outfrom the rap-to-rock thing. My feelings towards MC's rockin out issimilar to Gmahogany's stance on Michael Jackson's "Thriller"being lesserto "Off the wall." Some artist change up the formula for successto appeal to'another market' and forget what truly'made' them successful in the first place. Imagine Luther Vandross, if he were still with us in the physical, doing a heavy metal track. You can't, because he knew his strengths as an artist and deviated from them but so much(he modernized his music, butnever stopped being "Luther"). Andre 3000 made 'different' hip hop as well on "The Love Below," but it was so high quality, that it didn't matter.
The new album drops in stores in the States at the end ofJanuary, but it's already available on the net from my understanding. So, to hear it early, I would have to download it. If it's hot; I will support it financially, because that's how good music continues to get produced by the record companies.
|
Edit: RL, the release date was pushed up a month here andwas released yesterday. This is odd, because normally albums drop on Tuesdays here in the States. I suppose the downloading forced his label to drop his album early? So, you had a point about the downloading.
