God determines who walks into your life...It's up to you who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. May God bless all of you and your life be full of Peace, Prosperity, Love and Abundance. Amen

When I read this story in the paper I thought hmmm....
The reason being; she said she does not want Zahara to feel alone...where is the logic in that? If she is so up on promoting equality then why would Zahara feel alone? confused3

Good. One less child out of poverty. I really don't understand what people are moaning about. It's not like they are there themselves taking children out of poverty. This woman is embracing equality and diversity in the children she adopts, and giving them a life that people dream of. You really can't complain, and if you don't want her to adopt then let's just leave another child to starve and die at the age of 10 ... people make me laugh, talking about "she thinks she's collecting dolls" confused3.. honestly.

I agree with lilsoul. Good for Angelina! The child will have a better life. Also, about it being "in" to adopt black kids, I think it is wonderful that more people are finally starting to embrace adopting black children. People from all over have been adopting asian children in droves for a long time now. If they are willing to love the child and take care of them properly, I don't see any problem. About the whole wanting the child not to be alone, as i understand it she adopted the other asian kid so that her first son will have someone who looks like him and that was part of the reason for her wanting another black child as well. She said she didn't have plans to adopt a white child because their daughter already sees people who look like her (herself and brad), and we all know the importance of seeing someone who at least looks like you, especially in a positive light, but that's another story.

while i agree in theory and practice with a child being adopted out of poverty (and in this case into relative luxery) i also believe that it is better for a child to be adopted by a couple/family of the same background as them.
That being said, one of the first topics i started when i joined this forum was about adoption. The view i got from some posters was that they would only be willing to adopt a member of their own extended family and would not consider adopting an "outsider" or "stranger" child. This may be why there are so many Black childen in need of doption/fostering.
So if Black folks aren;t willing to adopt these kids, can;t really blame folks who do, though, as i already stated, it would till be my preference for a Black child to go to a family of the same background as them.
YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)

You see, the selfishness and arrogance is more in your comment than any celeb flying on a plane to africa to take a child out of poverty. These people are using their wealth and gain to give a child a better life and your moaning, and specially when it's a child from your own continent. Well, better the child a fashion accessory than be making fashion accessorys for 2p a day. And how can we judge that angelina is doing this for publicity. Angelina is an ambassador for the UN and has advocated and spoken out on many issues from aids, to trafficking , and poverty across countries across the world. It really bugged me when black people were complaining about madonna adopting baby david from an orphan home in malawi. Madonna left a ton of money in that community and takes that child home every so often to see it's father. I think some blackpeople are plain prejudice and see that because money is white that her intentions are not worthy enough to adopt an african child. When complaining, it's almost as if to say 'i'd rather see that baby stay in malawi and suffer a poverty filled life, than live longer and prosper in a healthy and better upbringing by some rich white women' ....

I get the feeling that Madonna and Angelina's intentions are honourable, im merely relying on instinct for that.
However that same instinct tells me that the way this new development has hit the media it does in some ways present itself as a trend. Therefore it stands to reason that some may see thisas a useful opportunity to inhance their PR image. There is always that danger and reality which naturally we are concerned about.

Some of these children being adopted are not without natural living parents and a wider family circle. A goal in these circumstances should be to unite a family. You can grow up happy in Africa if you have the basic things to get by. Throwing money at a child is not everything. Look at the amount of dysfunctional children in this country. You can provide aid to poor African families so that the child's parents can raise them themselves.
I wish my family never came over to the UK to have this so called better life. I would have been better of living in Africa. I don't agree that life is necessarily better in the West. I know parents who are sending their young children back to Africa to be educated and grow up.
The way you are going on lilsoulful1 about Africa sounds a bit ignorant to me.
Madonna is nothing but an attention seeker and she has been throughout her career i would never pass her as fit to adopt she probably would not even pass the background checks in the UK or the US. She bought David with her money that is pretty crystal clear.
Some people will copy because they have seen a few people in the media doing this some people maybe honourable and some may not be. Guidelines and rules should be followed for sure and everybody should have to follow them regardless of who they are. Going after children who have got living parents and a wider family circle is really not a good idea.
Here are a couple of interesting articles on this subject

I could not agree more! You don't need riches to live a good life. Having basic things and your loving family are far superior to having riches IMO.
