The Face Of Choice FM -
31-10-07, 01:43 PM
These are the 30 finalists for the 'face' to represent choice fm - Britains only legal 'black' radio station.
Face Of Choice - Choice FM
Hmm.... the dark skinned black people really stand out in that line up.

If this is a radiostation to be the source and media of BLACK peoplethen why so few dark skinned people in the last thirty that is an insult .
nothing wrong with a person of lighter shade , but what is wrong is .......... if that was a competition by the sun ( stupid racist uninformative ) newspaper or CRAPITAL radio , i would be SHOUTING fix , racism , taking the piss , hav-ing a larff mate , but i cant its a SOCALLED blackradio station what a shame what a shame .
i just wonder what a 5 - 10 year old dark skinned youth would be thinking looking at these images and seeing nothing like him/her in the last 30 ........
then people wonder why so many people go crazy and wear blue contacts and blonde hair
WHO DO WE BLAME ?

Choice FM was sold to Capital Radio a long time ago and are now a Multi Cultural radio station who seek to cater to vast spectrum of ethnicities. As such expect community issues to be swept under the rug in order to stay in favor with this vast spectrum.
That being said I'm taking the negative out of things like this, they are what they are. Not that bad anyway, most of them are Black..
Vote for Kadiatu!!!!!

why would you expect anything more or less from the british media, it has always show cased light skinned (female) beauty, or used non black women to represent black ideals of beauty, and we have all eaten it up in one way or another. Could you really see a dark skinned African looking woman winning that please, the only way a dark skinned african woman would win is if she was actually mixed race and had curly hair bigger than her actual head. Only change is that choice has now insisted that only light skinned males need apply too

Most of them certainly are not BLACK - mixed maybe!
Why so many white girls?
Why do all the men ( with the exception of 2) look the same?
Why is the only dark skinned black girl the stereotypical/de riguer bald headed african? Can darker girls only look good when they have no hair? Thought that was just a fashion industy rule

Well Choice cannot be considered a black radio station anymore so looking at that line-up its no surprise at all. And I'm wondering, with the changes at the station, how many dark skinned people actually entered the competition.

The first part of BlackLion's post was actually right on target. A lot of these ethnic media outlets start out 'minority' or Black owned. Once they become popular with their Black audience, White investors see their marketing potential since Black people everywhere tend to be large consumers rather than producers. Anyway they come in and buy them up (for large sums of money I might add). ie BET just to name a well known example.
I also noticed that Black people tend to be more excepting of others owning and marketing to them than other groups. For example I doubt most British Asians would support a radio station centered at Indians packed full of people who don't even CONSIDER themselves Indians. Just like case in point, maybe half of the finalist in this show consider themselves Black but half probably don't. So why should the half that don't be representative of Black British people?

There are quite a few White people arent there? Then Choice FM is no longer a Black station, it used to be.
I have to say, as far as non biracial looking people in the finalists, most of them are dark skinned, I see no light skinned Black people at all. All the supposed light skinned people are mixed race.
There are no light skinned black people there, as far as I can see. Seven of the final 30 are darker skinned Black people.

Choice FM ...................... Quote ".....................playing the best in R&B and Hip-Hop" = URBAN one of those media friendly terms when they want to white wash something.
So no surpises in their choice of brown faces.
If you want real music tune into Flames FM (although they are been off air recently) of another pirate station.

They crossed over a long time ago, so they might as well choose a white person to represent it so we could just cut our losses and move on. It's a very shitty radio station anyways!

Sisters that stand out: Kadiatu, Carmen and Laurina.
Brothers that stand out: Darren and Robert even though he's got a bit of a snoop thing going on. Kane looks a bit like Farrell no?
Not too sure what Choice represents anymore though *shrugs*
