• Essentially, The Matrix is the computer program that creates what you and I perceive as "the real world". I think that's it in a nutshell. Btw, this is one of my all-time favourite movies so if you have any more questions, fire away!

Yes i think i may ask hesaid too. Good idea! And i got another question brewing for him but its half term this week so got plenty of time to catch up on my posts.

Do u know that every time i hear the word Matrix, in whatever context, i instantly develop a brain block. Its after watchin the film many times and being totally puzzed about what on earth it is!! Even finding it hard to take it in by the description. And then when i hear it in a biology class or about black net i am totally fizzled! Think i will look it up in the dictionary some time. Got a big, good one 4 me birthady so yes might utilise it 4 this purpose, amongst others!

OK so the computer programme creates what we percieve as the real world. So is that ship that the ppl are on, the real world? I just dont geddet!! He takes Neo to that place and says this is the real world and its all burnt and broken and dead. Whats that all about?And where do they do all those things like the jump and where the hell do they go to get to places like when they fly the hellicopter. blkcry

Bro me thinks you got a little excited in the question being about the matrix you forgot about who or why the question was being asked as observed by Happiness. ok "matrix" in non- movie terms usually refers to something that forms a system, framework or a pattern for something else to exist. People sometimes refer to the womb as a "matrix" and using the previous explanation, you can see why.

As far as the movie goes, using the above explanation, you can say that The Matrix is something (in this case a program) which forms a system/framework/pattern (in this case programming codes)for a certain reality to exist. In this case thereality isrefered to as the Matrix or the Construct World.

some background stuff: humans created machines (computers) which led to the birth of artificial intelligence and the AI wanted equality with humans whichled to a war between humans and AI. In order to win, the humans scorched the sky thus removing the AI's power source(the sun).....so theAI found another power source: humans beings.

But the AIhad to keep the minds of the humans occupied in order to harvest their physical bodies for their energy power.So, the AI created amassive software program that created an interactive reality based on earth as it was before the sky was scorched; thenthe human brainwas "wired" into this software program and humans "lived" their lives much like you and I do. The humans were born,went to school etc...went to work, got married, hadbabies etc....and eventually died...all the while not knowing that their lives were nothing more than asimulated reality. A software program. A virtual reality life lived within The Matrix.

However, there were those humans who were so self-aware (or enlightened) that they were able to mentally "unplug" themselves from the Matrix program and they came to realise thatthe Real world was actually a desolate place without light(becausethe sun has been scorched) and in which AI (machines) ruled and humans were kept mentally enslaved and imprisoned in the Matrix so that their physical bodies could be harvested forpower.

Now, chique, the ship you refered to is in the Real World but from the ship the human rebels are able to hack into The Matrix and infiltrate the Virtual World. Just their minds go there but because they understand that this is just a computer s/w and that nothing is real,they are able to manipulate The Matrix and do extraordinary things hence the fighting which defies logic and gravity..amongst other things....but they can only do this in the Matrix...not in the Real world (because the lawsof physics still hold in th Real World)

My son and I watched Matrix Reloaded on DVD Saturday night, and I've since been reading the reviews for the last in the Trilogy. Unfortunately the reviews are not good but then I try not to be influenced by other people's opinions....blkdevillol.
