I want to see if people are interested in (straight to video) Black British movies. Since we normally have to rely on whateverBlack Americans make, which sometimes can be pretty awful, would you buy movies about Black British people made by Black British people?
You see I'm trying to get into the British film industry and find a way of making films for Black Brits. Obviously I'll need experience. But I believe the demand is there.
It looks like we have to make our own chances in the UK.
What do you think?

Also look at Nollywood for a possible business model.

I'm not so sure.
I'm not a film buff, so for a start the film would have to have an exceptionally good plot to keep me interested.
Generally though, British films bore me.
They have not an ounce of originality or vision. Its usually based on sometiresome historic period and book and/or they'll try too hard to be something they are not, i.e. American.
The few 'black' British films that there are, seem to be only concerned with the 'streets' and they seem so lacklustre.
I'd love to see a film madein the Caribbean/America/Africa/'Australia', using their actors. It would be so authentic and vibrant.

It depends, I'm worried that black movie makers will focus on certain topics or attitudes/mentalities that isn't held by all of the black british community. One example i'm thinking of is the movie with asha D (whatever-from so solid), i'm worried that there'll be a trend of home-made low quality movies exploring exclusively young black british men and crime (and maybe even the glorifying of gun culture). Those are my concerns however I would be interested in just seeing a black british produced movie, not necessarily one that strictly focuses on black british culture.

i believe black british film will find its own voice given time.
just like black british r&b / hip hop have had to.Now we have UKG , drum&bass, etc all uniquely Black and British and copied by the rest of the world.
so im confident we have to creativity and talent to set our own pace and our own unique style.

I would love to see Colin Channer's Waiting in Vain made into a movie.
It is set in the US, Jamaica and the UK and is a wonderful and well written account of a black man coming into his and his woman's consciousness....
