Default High School Musical - What's the big deal? - 23-09-07, 03:16 PM

Why is all this hype surrounding high school musical?

Now I have to admit that I love me a high school movie now and then, with all it's cliche's about popular cheerleader/ quarterbacks, and unpopular nerds that still become prom queen.

BUT high school musical is over-acted, too cliche and to top it off....they burst out in ridiculous song every ten minutes...

And still...I read in the Times yesterday that 17.2 million viewers tuned in to see high school musical 2.

What the hell...?

I loathe most things disney (though i love anything muppet related!) so really was not particulalry enamoured of a "movie" that was basically an over extended "saved by the bell" episode (remember that?!?!) But after being begged by one of my year 6 kids to watch it on friday night, i caved (plus nothing else on) if nothing else, i wanted to see what all the fuss and hype was about. I admit it was not to be watched through a jaded cynical eye, so i had to turn that reflex off in order to see it through the eyes of my year 6 girls. Towards the end i got into the soppy crap, although i think the fundamental message of it was WRONG (the message being "screw your future and only worry about what your friends think). That being said i have (annoyingly) decided that life is more fun as a musical, and now sing everything.

Or, as is my new mantra "Life is more fun if you sing everything"!!!

So much for this old cynic.

Incidentally, since that is an hour and fifty minutes i won't see again, that will be an hour and fifty minutes that "child X", who recommended it, won't see of playtime. That should cover next week nicely.

YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)

Harmless fun. Going back to the Annie/Mary Poppins school of films which has been lacking in 'tween' films for a while.

Glad they started making them to be honest. Lets kids be kids for a change.

As for the message, it is what it is, doubt any child will live their life according to a disney movie, how many of us lived our lives according to Bugsy Malone???

It is harmless untill you find yourself walking around humming/singing all the songs after seeing/hearing them a million times.

I've got to admit though, I did change my work shift to watch the premier of Jump (Cordon Blu) with her and did enjoy it.....How sad is that.

Ok now I've got the tunes in my head again.

If we do not have an accurate analysis of the problem, we cannot possibly develop a good strategy to resolve it.

Push it Push it to the limit limit, coz your in it to win it to win it Oh yeah!

I love Jump In! I bought the DVD (from the market but its a hardback case and it shows criss! lol!)!

My lil one wants to be Corbin Bleu, not a bad tween role model really when you consider what else is out there.

I would have queued up at HMV if he was with the rest of the cast the other day.

What was the main game at his party this summer? Double Dutch!

High School Musical on Ice this December anyone!
