Newstyle,
I 'm hoping that I can check the movie out this weekend. Between you and me, Far as Frank Lucas, I really do believe that if he wasn't weakened , I believe that he would , at the least, have people working for him. I say that because, even at 77 years old, he still doesn't come off as a person who has a lot of remorse of what he did. Last night I was looking at an interview that he had with Matt Lauer and all he wanted Denzel to do was to help him win an Oscar. Ironically and truthfully Denzel told him that he he did a lot of dirt and he paid and continues to pay for the things that he did to people."I could be wrong , but he just gives me the vibes of an evil man, but still even with his warped mindset at the time, it's amazing of the amount of power this man had.

It was a great movie and will be a classic. I doubt it will do well since it was leaked and heavily pirated..Possibly the most pirated pre-release of all-time..Although I watched it in theaters to support Denzel.

Well having watched it admittedly on Pirate, this film looked like a remake of New Jack City but with different lead actors......

Actually New Jack City was partially based on Nicky Barnes who happened to be a character in this movie..So I can see the connection.

Good movie and Denzel is as usual on top form here ,............ my one gripe about this film was how black women were portrayed. Frank Lucas has the the sisters in the crack house BUTT nekked (and I mean butt naked, no panties, or bras... NOTHING ON) cutting and sorting heroin, while he courts, marries and treats a white women with the up most respect and dignity.
Sad thing is this is a true story.......

I figured that much as soon as I saw production photos of Denzel playing Frank Lucas handing a "Miss Puerto Rico" a diamond necklace. I will never understand (nor support media), which makes heros out of AA men who destroy their own community and spit on their own women, their own mothers!

I am surprised to see the lack of criticism. I just hope that folks within certain parts of the Hip-Hop Community do not glamorize this gentleman, if one could call him that. To this day, he has shown no remorse for the misery and violence he spread in the "Black" Community. If anything Frank Lucas showed just how big an idiot he could be, despite all of the intelligence he displayed while running his "empire". I have not seen the film. I know there is a morbid fascination with his accomplishments. But I hope they show just how much destruction he wrought on his family and his community.

This man was no hero. I don't know if the film portrays him as one, however. In the end, Frank Lucas was busted down. He ended up living hand to mouth on the street. Much better than he deserved.

Have to agree with you here, I am reaching that point too, one could say that this was some 40+ years ago, but the truth is that things are no better now.

I have to support the person who wondered why there is a lack of criticism. We know this thing happened but i am sick of hollywood s obsession with demonising Afrikan people by focusing on the worse elements of our community and no doubt we are always willing to assist them. I am becoming disappointed with Denzil. there was Training Day and now this. He is an accomplished actor he can command millions why he chooses to lower himself i don't know may be he wants another oscar. I know actors want to depict various types of character i know he can't always play Malcolm X and Steve Biko, but we should think of the wider implications of our actions. We all have social responsibility its like rappers who will do any buffoonery to sell records. We need our own film company to counter this bs so rather than our children and adults learning about the biggest druglord they can learn about African empires, heroes and sheroes. By focusing on these driglords no matter the end we are glamorising them and g | |
