Hope this helps.

I tried the ulead program but ive noticed that a relitily small file (lets say 700mb) once converted will become HUGE!!

I know its asking a bit but can someone hook me up with some info on what they use??...

thanks..
The files are huge because dvd authoring software goes according to time not size, if a 700mb avi file is 1hr 45min long, you will still get near to 4gb in size for a regular dvd.

I heard dvdsanta is ok, never used it myself though.

http://www.videohelp.com/

A comprehensive site from novice to pro with links to freeware if used. note: if its free it's usally more complicated.

I got fed up and bought myself a £35 dvd player that plays avi etc.....

The world's full of them..... and you know it!

It depends on how much effort you want to put into it. If you aren't worried about menus or anything, but for it to just play, then DVD Santa is definitely the way to go. If you want to create all types of menus then you can use ULead or even Adobe's Premiere if you are really into video editing.

Oh yeah, one thing to remember is that the DVD format is always going to be much large than an encoded avi,mpeg-2, or mpeg-4.
