I have these sick arse viruses on my computer...I think one is Trojan but I don't know what version. All I know is it keeps sending me fake window alerts telling me I have a spyware infection and trying to scan my files.

I also had it setting up its own account in my control panel

@BB

Try the 3 steps below, the Microsoft spyware checker will detect all spyware, also adaware is another reputable spyware detector software.

Step 1
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ << adaware program

Step 2
Nod32 is the best anti virus programme… run this to detect virii and Trojans. http://www.nod32.com/download/index.php << download this virus checker (NOD32) its a trial version, but you can use it freely for 30 days to clkean any virii and/or Trojans...

Step 3
After you have cleaned the computer of virii, trojans and spyware, its best to use the Firefox browser to surf the web as its less vunberable to spyware than Internet Explorer... ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ )

Norton in 'google pack' is the most common anti virus programme BUT it is bulky in terms of file size and memory usage and therefore slows down the computer... so it is advisable to use the NOD32 anti virus programme mentioned above.

up to you.....

- Mircosoft windows defender anti spyware software is free.
- Adaware is free
-NOD32 is a 30day free trial, but is long enough to clean the computer, if you want on going virii/trojan protection then you will have to pay a subcription.

My mum discovered what the virus is in the early hours of this morning (it's a hidden file) and she said it is an adaware file. So I don't get downloading the adaware thingy.

I will try the goggle pack or the other one you mentioned Miss N.

Thanks guys...I hope it works, because it is messing up my laptop.

No probs...BB

Adaware is an anti spyware programme, most businesses use it because it's very good, can't possibly be an authentic adaware programme..... anyway try the google pack, failing that the Microsoft defender is also has a good rep for it's effectiveness.

Good luck

I would say MS defender and CA Associates AV program which is suprisingly light. I have not been infected in a while (knock on wood)

Also BB, make sure your firewall is up as well. Somethings do transfer themselves to you via open ports.

Might be an ad-ware file, as opposed to an Adaware which is a program worth having as others have said. Adware is a variant of spyware.

Definite votes also for Firefox as a browser, and AVG Free version anti-virus along with other programs mentioned. Have also found the ZoneAlarm free firewall very effective (the full version is excellent - £40 but worth having).

I tried the N32 thing and the virus is still there...ermm I think it may have messed up some files on my hard drive.

I am going to try the google pack a little later...I am worn out-I feel like a bloody ghostbuster!

I am sick of this sh!t.

My main machine is off line, UNPLUGGED from the network. It is 2.7 GHz, 1 Gig of RAM, 120 Gig SATA with dual boot of Win2K and SUSE 10. I use an old clunker to cruise the net now, 1.3 GHz, 256 Meg, and 10 Gig + 15 Gig IDE drives. If it gets annoyingly infected I can low level format the hard drives if I have to. I am not putting anything important on here, it is primarily for net cruising. I've got a KVM switch to switch the keyboard and mouse between the two machines and it can handle two more. LOL And the 1.3 GHz makes less noise and must use less power.

Keeping up with virus software on top of the stuff I am actually interested in is a pain. To hell with it. I bet an old used computer costs less than some of this anti-virus software.bighairlol
