Yes folks, its that wonderful time of year when I get a brand spanking new fone for (almost) free, but I'm not entirely sure which one to go for. Hoping one of you wonderful people can shed some light on what to go for. Here are a couple of perameters for ya:
- NOTHING from Motorola. Nothing but trouble in my opinion. cant stand them.
- Not a huge fan of a nokia but could be swayed.
- Must have MP3 rington compatibility
- Must have standard stuff like colour screen, bluetooth etc...
- A decent camera, over 1.0 Mega Pixel
- Nothing pink and girly :P
[align=left] I currently have a Samsung e720 and its served me quite well. Not a single thing has ever gone wrong with it and I really love it so I'm keeping it for my second line. Was thinking of one of the new sony ericson ones like this (BTW, I'm on t-mobile):

I recently upgraded to a Sony Ericsson K750i.
Best phone I ever had. So used to having Nokias I almost missed out on it.
Plus I get 1000 minutes and 150 texts for £15 per month so ask for what you want and take it from there. These companies hate to lose clients.

I recently upgraded to a Sony Ericsson K700i. Nice little phone. Not really into all the gadgetry and such.
T Mobilegave me a nice little offer for the upgrade.
Half price rental with my 'freetime tariff' and the contract was only for one year.
Not bad at all

I got the ericsson w810i, love the phone can't dun. Had it about 3mths, dropped it a zillion times and it's still going strong. The memory on it is wicked, lost count of the amount of songs I have on it. For a 2 mega pixel I don't find the camera that great, but thats not what I use the phone for. The battery life is good, I have the music playing all night and still have half to a quarter bar left in the morning. I got this phone free on upgrade, depending on your discount you might have to pay upto £50 but thats good considering the phone is worth £500. All now I still get looks when I pull out the phone in public (green eyed looks), definitely one of my best choices in phone.

It depends on what you are looking for
The W810i is a nice phone, especially if you like alot of music on your phone
But if u want a phone with a nice camera then u may wanna try the new K800i which is the upgraded version of the K750i, it has cybershot and a 3.2 megapixel camera... only problem is that it is not on all networks just yet. I think its on O2, Vodaphone and "3" at the moment

If the phones are almost free, how are the companies making a PROFIT.

So when they say something is free that means there is bait hanging out but it is not easy to see the hook.
What is the hook? The cost of service? The batteries? WHAT?

My phone was free on upgrade cos I spend a certain amount of money per mth, I have been with them a long time, and I have two lines. Thats how they make profit, they can afford to give you a phone forfree or almost free cos they have people like me tied to a contract for 12-18mths.

Its Business
The actual cost of making the phone is not as expensive as selling it. They make a profit as they buy phones in bulk which is alot cheaper (economies of scale) and selling the phones at a higher price at which they boughtthem (profit margin).
They give away free phones on an upgrade because the customer is under contract and pays line rental, a set amount every month usually in between £15 and £25, and money is | |
