I have recently purchased a computer, and I was wondering if yall will help me.

What sort of things do I need to put on there...in terms of security..etc..and just fun stuff

Well I hope you have already installed a firewall, and Anti Virus or your new PC will be a heap o junk before long...

I recomend Zonealarm Pro and Giant Anti spyware. You can get Counter spy which is good from;

Can find anything on there for free and its safe.

For the illegal downloading of MP3sI reccomend Limewire, crap for anything thats not a bit pop. For underground stuff get soulseek, bit slow but cool.

e-mule, ares, soulseek

WinRar - For archiving

Nero - For CD burning

Adobe Acrobat PDF maker and distiller 6.0 -7.0

Also:

Mozilla Firefox for web browsing (though useless for posting replies on this site)

Mozilla Thunderbird for sending/receiving email (instead of MS Outlook)

OpenOffice 2.0 for everything that you would do through MS Office (word processing/spreadsheet/presentation graphics/PDF creation)

All free and downloadable - do a search on programme names as above.

Oh yeah... you've gotta get yourself a decent graphics card to check out the sigs and avatars on here;



And then if you think about it, an internal hard drive is more or less best kept for essencial programs for music and games etc you'll need an external 250G hard drive;

Quicktime/Realplayer/Windows media already. You'll need those... and;

Nortons viruschecker business edition/symantec virus checker- ABBY Fine reader 5.1 - Opera explorer - Adobe photoshop 7.1 - a TV tuner - Fruit loops and a synth, probably a microphone as well - a sound card... how could I forget, its gotta be at least 6.1, I prefer externals - a set of studio speakers to match (plus 1 sub) - A vibrating games seat, prehaps with speakers on the inside - an optical mouse and keyboard - 24meg broadband - skype - a Voip telephone... ummm....

For security I recommend McAfee. You can get the updates for free if you are willing to download them.
