Depending on how serious the problem is, if it is a minor thing, a system restore could be a way out. That means you go back to the last date everything worked well.

However, if you have installed anything after the date you want to restore your system to, the installation would be rolled back and you have to re-install.

system restore can befound via Start menu, programs, accessories, system tool, system restore.

I hope you are on win XP, can't remember if Win 2000 has system restore option.

Goodluck`

That is peculiar. Is it a fairly new laptop? If you dont have too many precious files and applications, then do a clean wipe and reinstall everything using your system discs.

Sounds like you've already done error checks and defragmentation. I had a similar problemand itturned out to bea worm that changed my registry, deactivated my firewall and changed it so that I couldn't system restore in XP.

I posted in Major Geeks. com and several users helped me fix it. However, that is based on the assumption that you have malware at work. They had me install a list of programs that barred changes to my registry and internet settings. First, download a diagnostic tool called "Hijack This" run the program and post the log.

Barring all that, you may want to buzz the tech support line.

Good luck! if you need help, post back.
