Default 'Safari' web browser by Apple - 09-08-07, 07:30 AM

Been trying this recently and have to say am impressed......clean looks, noticeably faster than Firefox and IE with all of the best features of both.....available for Windows PC and for Mac.......a serious contender in the browser market. More about Safari here:

Apple - Safari 3 Public Beta - Download

Any other users out there? Be interested to know your views.

Is it better than firefox?

I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

I tried it and it does seem to be somewhat faster,

But I have had problems with Realplayer 11 doing video downloads with Firefox and Safari even though it worked in Internet Explorer. Resizing the window in Safari can only be done from the lower right corner. I find that really annoying. To move the top of the window down without the bottom going off the screen you must go to the lower right corner to shrink it then got back to the top to move it down.

At present I mostly use Firefox but if something doesn't work there I test it with Internet Explorer. I haven't found where Safari has sufficient advantage to justify the irritations.

um

OK......are those problems related to RealPlayer? Must admit RP is something I only use if I absolutely have to, based on past experience.....maybe it's better these days.....but appreciate the heads-up. Haven't downloaded anything with Safari yet, so we shall see.

I've been a dedicated Firefox man for the last three years or so, again only using IE where there's a functionality problem - few of those these days. But it's slow to load and refresh - always has been - which is why Safari seems eye-catching so far. Must admit the Apple screen look is much easier on the eye than Windows - then again, aesthetics has always been an Apple strength.....

Will continue to watch and learn.

It's faster; it makes the screen nicer to look at; it does everything that Firefox does, in some ways better (e.g. tabbed browsing, a Bookmarks button bar with loads more space). Will say more as I find......

According to some, Firefox is struggling at the mo (sorry for long link):

75% of the people who download Firefox don't become active users | Technology | Guardian Unlimited
