McAfee is one of those invasive AV products like Norton, which slow your system down. There are better (and permanently free) alternatives around.

No problem......

Would recommend AVG Free edition - been using this for years - updates every day, and you can set it to scan your machine as frequently as you wish:

AVG Free Advisor - Free antivirus and anti-spyware downloads

Also try BitDefender - never used it personally but download sites rate it:

Download BitDefender 10 Free Edition - filehippo.com

And there is Avira AntiVir Personal Edition:

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic - Reviews and free Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic downloads at Download.com

Take your pick....

Thanks S.R

“There is no harder misfortune in all human history than when the powerful of the earth are not also the first men. Then everything becomes false and awry and monstrous. And when they are even the last men and more beast than man, then the value of rabble rises higher and higher and at last the rabble-virtue says: Behold, I alone am virtue.”- S.A.Israel

Tell me about it......of all the programs I've used, there's only one that matches it (Trend Micro's PC-cillin), but you gotta pay for that.....AVG beats the rest hands down.

Cheers, ive been using ESET Nod32, its free for one mth only then you have to unistall and re-install again to get updates. Silly really because they must know you can do this to keep getting the freebies so why bother.

SR tried the AVG free edition and wasnt impressed. Slowed my machine down noticeably, much more even than the Norton edition i stopped using because of the amount of resources the program uses. Ive now unistalled it and continued with the ESET NOD32 and immediately have noticed the difference in Pc performance-hence it definately was the AVG slowing it down.

Have never had that problem in 5+years of usage, on machines running Pentium III chips up to Dual Core. Sorry to hear.

Looking on my PC, the program files only take up 43MB, so it's not a disk space hog compared to some. Don't know what could have caused it.

Is it not more about the memory the program uses?
