McAfee is one of those invasive AV products like Norton, which slow your system down. There are better (and permanently free) alternatives around.

Tell me about it......of all the programs I've used, there's only one that matches it (Trend Micro's PC-cillin), but you gotta pay for that.....AVG beats the rest hands down.

SR tried the AVG free edition and wasnt impressed. Slowed my machine down noticeably, much more even than the Norton edition i stopped using because of the amount of resources the program uses. Ive now unistalled it and continued with the ESET NOD32 and immediately have noticed the difference in Pc performance-hence it definately was the AVG slowing it down.

Have never had that problem in 5+years of usage, on machines running Pentium III chips up to Dual Core. Sorry to hear.
Looking on my PC, the program files only take up 43MB, so it's not a disk space hog compared to some. Don't know what could have caused it.

Is it not more about the memory the program uses?
