Default Sony P1i Vs HTC TyTN II - Smartphone comparison. - 15-03-08, 07:03 PM

Have just upgraded my 3G contract they're going to send the Nokia 6500, nice phone and all but I'm hoping to sell it and my Vario II and get a better smartphone, hopefully one thats lighter on the pocket (weight wise) and a bit faster than the Vario II as it can take a while for it to respond at times.

Never been a fan of Sony Ericsson PDAs, remember cussing them on here actually .lol. they dropped the Clie range to put it into their Viao laptops and brought out those chunky P900s with ericsson... but their latest isn't that bad;

But it still dosen't compare to the latest HTC/Vario III phone perhaps, its one step away from being a computer, the screen tilts toward you so it can be sat on a table and its just s expensive as it is heavy;

Anyone else got a smart phone? Don't think anything beats the iPhone looking at it but its too ''fad'' for me, apple have well and truly saturated the market they're onto what..? the third line of iPods and they have the iPhone and its music variant out as though people are ready to drop their music players like seasonal fasion wear or something which is why they added that battery, disposable technology.

Anyway, does anyone want a Nokia 65000 or a Vario/HTC II? Got to make at least £200 off 'em.

Despite my loyalty to Sony I would say TyTn II ranks as one of the better current smart phones around.

I currently own the Sony Ericsson W960 which is your walkman come smartphone hybrid since they seem to have dispensed with the P series for the time being post P990 and P1. Its not a bad phone - easy to use - does what I need as far as emails and office stuff goes - beaten only by the Nokia N95 8GB on the basis of Sony being lazy and putting out a substandard 3 MP camera with 3 year old software to facilitate it. Nokia 6500 - slide or classic? You'll be better off without the classic - good looking piece of rubbish - might as well be a Samsung.

Purely from a navigation point of view you cannot beat an IPhone right now its ridiculously good but for all its handling and looks its not that great in its core function as a phone plus you have Apple demanding brand loyalty unless you unlock it.

I'd sacrifice navigation for functionability though, the HTC's are basic as they run on a windows operating system, can't go wrong there really... think thats what I'd miss, not sure what sony have to compare to that... what office functions does your one have? Don't need excel but it was good to have.

Nokia 6500 - slide or classic?
Went for the slide, the classic looked a bit odd. Need to go and pick it up tomorrow, might get it unblocked and add a bit to its value still not sure about this sony though they shouldn't have done away with the keypad they had for the other series... the N95 is a good one... might put in the extra £70 and get the HTCIII

Black lion I have just got the Tytn 11, as an upgrade from the SPV M3100 which was its predecessor... So far it is very good... But I haven't fully gone through all the features yet s I'm gonna hold fire on the review until i do...

I've had the HTC S710 for about nine months now.....thought about the TyTN but wanted something a little more phone-like....still very message-centric though...

Very nice phone - Bluetooth, camera (basic but not bothered about it as I almost never use it), GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, Windows Mobile 6...handles all my email accounts no probs.....syncs with Outlook too but again don't use it.....online access is decent tho don't use it much.....slide-out keyboard is handy if I need to type messages longer than a word or two....and takes an SD-Micro card so music is easy - supplied headphones aren't up to much so got a Bluetooth set instead....Think Orange market a version of this phone (SPV 650 or something like that)

HTC seems to be an underrated brand, but I would recommend.

Great phone generally... i have had this since November 07 and used to have the MDA Vario2 prior to that. Purely for business use

PRO- Easily replaces my laptop in terms of mobility
- The telephone sound is much better than the MDA V 2
- Faster internet access
- Great GPS
- Faster processor
- The keyboard is awesome!!! slide and tilt
- Anti-Virus comes standard as general package with T-mobile

CONS
- Heavier than the old mda v2
- Phone switches off whilst using it -although easily remedied by just using press the scroll button again or even the power button
- The battery life is poor compared to its predecessors

Still feels flimsy and i wouldn't drop this on the floor with the kind of cash paid for it. This phone generally is A GOOD all rounder waaay better than IPHONE!

Definitely better than the Sony ''PDA'' then... might stick with them... main thing is the weight of the things, think its the tilt hinge that put it on a bit.

Is the s710 touch screen S.R? Odd having another phone, so used to the touch screen end up tapping at other phones like it does something.

Not touch screen - never had a phone with this facility so not an issue for me, but know people who are used to touch screen so understand where you're coming from.

Some reviews have marked it down slightly for its absence; others shave a star because the phone does not have GPS. But overall seems very well rated.
