I was not a beginner when I started the tape... I had done workout tapes before... and I did this in addition to the fitness program that I had at the time...

But to be honest it does not matter what you fitness level is....

as the video is divided into sections which means that you can isolate your workout and concentrate on different things on different days...

and mix the workout with any other different activities that you do...

Really good tape... or a least I enjoyed it...

this is what it says on amazon i have highlighted what i think answers your question!

Amazon.co.uk Review
New York City Ballet 2, like its bestselling predecessor, is still designed to sculpt and tone your body; but this second edition has also learned the lessons of the original routine, which was difficult to use for those without formal ballet training. This second workout attempts to be accessible to all, providing a glossary explaining ballet terminology and introducing such steps as Plies and Tendus. Be warned though, this will still take practise if you are new to ballet.

The routine itself is also less demanding than the first, but includes one of the best abs workouts to be found on an exercise programme. While the steps do not offer a cardio workout, they are enjoyable once mastered and will make you feel more graceful. Combining ballet and yoga is all the rage at gyms, so a good tip is to tie this in with your favourite yoga programme for that ideal posture and definition. All in all this is a great improvement on the first edition and certainly more enjoyable than watching a Big Brother celebrity's dance routine.
On the DVD: New York City Ballet 2 offers pristine images and a 5.1 Dolby sound. This works wonderfully on the choice of classical and contemporary tracks. There is also the option to develop your own routine, which is useful if you are never sure how much time you have spare to exercise. The DVD also offers a movement combination which slowly takes you through the steps to learn a dance sequence. --Nikki Disney --This text refers to the DVD edition.
From the Back Cover
New York City Ballet Workout is a revolutionary fitness programme that will help you begin to develop lean abdominals, firm buttocks, a contoured waist, sculptured legs, slim thighs, strong arms, perfect posture, flexibility you never thought possible – and the grace and poise of a dancer.
Join Ballet Master-in-chief Peter Martins and four of New York City Ballet’s beautiful dancers for NYCB 2, the next step in your ballet/fitness regime. Workout 2 builds on the strong ballet fundamentals of the first video and DVD in the series to help you sculpt a better body. In addition to the original, challenging exercises, Workout 2 includes a valuable introduction to those new to the joys of ballet as a conditioning programme. A video glossary makes it easy to zero in on precise movements and proper body alignment. An added movement section inspired by George Balanchine’s ballet Tarantella will improve your cardiovascular conditioning. Overall, Workout 2 has a colourful and fresh approach to ballet, which will help motivate you towards creating an even better body and a healthier lifestyle. Running time: 1 hour 22 minutes with 13 main exercises.

I bought the 1st version of this DVD off E-Bay a few days ago, should be here in a day or two,im looking forward to it,im hoping the excercises will help me elongate my muscles as opposed to the bulk I have built up over the years through cycling.

Dont want to end up looking as" marga "as a ballerina but if I can achieve 50-60% of their limberness over the next year i,ll be happy.

I aint asking for nothing, just open the door and i\'ll take it myself-James Brown.
