Has anyone heard about the effect of carrageenan, a thickening agent that is often added to soy milk? I recall reading somewhere that this substance may have questionable side effects.

All of the major soy milk brands seem to include carrageenan.

I found almond milk too sweet for me, but as Hubby has a massive sweet tooth he loved it.

Rice milk is dire, and you can't heat it up, making it useless on No 1 son's cereal.

I use unsweetened soya milk now. It's great to cook with too.

Sometimes though, if you worry about this scare and that scare, you'd never eat!

Vezz' comment about heating up rice milk raises a question regarding the desirability of nonanimal milk products in cooked foods.

Has anyone had success in using almond milk in recipes as a substitution for cow's milk? It is always helpful to find alternative ingredients. I'm also curious to know whether the almond taste blends well.

I drink both rice milk and soya. i have tried the oat milk but it was too watery for me.

I don't give my son cow milk either, I don't drink it so he doesn't. but i have been giving him the soya milk, the alpro one. I haven't found a substitute for it yet because i can't heat rice milk for him. I may have to go to the docs so they can recommend something for him.
