Smile Dementia Drugs - Please Help Click For A Good Cause - 03-09-07, 03:04 PM

Dear Fellow Members

My Father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease 2 years ago. His condition has since rapidly deteriorated to the point where he no longer recognises my Mum, his children or grandchildren. A whole lifetime of memories has been simply wiped out and it has completely devastated the whole family. He used to be an active and independant man, but now he is totally dependant on others to do everything for him. In the beginning I just used to feel so helpless, it's only recently that I'm coming to terms with it. I miss the Father I used to know and will do anything to help him and thousands of other sufferers like him.
I would also like to hear from anyone who's family or friend has also been affected by AD and to hear of your experiences.

Please help this campaign for drug treatment to help thousands of people with Alzheimer's Disease or Dementia. You may probably know of a family member, a friend, a neighbour, who has this terrible disease. It affects over 700,000 people in the UK alone.

Please send this email to everyone you know. The more people who campaign for dementia drugs, the more the NHS and the government will sit up and take notice. The cost is only £2.50 a day for these drugs, which are both clinically and cost effective.

You can contact your MP by emailing a template letter. It's very easy to do and will only take a few moments.

You can also sign an E-petition to go to the 10 Downing Street website. Please click on this link:
Petition to: Not to deny people in the early and late stages of Alzheimer’s disease access to drug treatments.

Please take a few moments to look at these links and help support this campaign.

Many, many thanks for viewing this post.

Pat

Hi Mike

Yes, it is such a horrible disease and more should be done to help people with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. People like my Father have worked so hard all their lives, paid their taxes and N.I contributions, and when they need help the most, they are being denied drugs that can help them when they are in the early or late stages of the disease. It won't cure them, but it will improve the quality of their lives. The cost of these drugs is a mere £2.50 per day, you can't even buy a MacDonalds meal for that!! In other words the NHS and NICE thinks that they are not worth £2.50 per day, and yet these elderly people have definitely paid alot more than £2.50 per day into the NHS system throughout their working lives.

In so many cases people are forced to sell their homes to pay for their care, if there is no one to take care of them. It is such a disgrace to treat elderly people in this way. They are a valued member of society.

Pat.
