I've had a problem with sugar for most of my adult life and have only really gotten a handle on it in the last couple of years.

My number one tip for you and its a vey simple one is to ALWAYS<ALWAYS<ALWAYS eat breakfast....and I dont mean any fry up business,I mean porridge,bran flakes or any kind of whole grain cereal....add raisins ,not sugar, for taste.

If you're the kind of person who cant eat breakfast,do it anyway,its such an important meal and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
You will still have sugar cravings but they wont be as hellacious and you wont binge as much.

The week leading up to your period, this is when I find I want chocolate,chips all sorts,this week is when breakfast is even more important,imperative even,otherwise you will go buck wild,hormones will make you snarf all kinds of crap and when the cravings get too much to bear,go for dark chocolate coz it has good antioxidant properties and also keep some dried fruits around which will give more of a slow release sugar wise.
Keep some lollipops in your cupboard,when the cravings get really ridick, which they can do sometimes,eat one of those slowly,one 40 calorie lolly is a hell of a lot better than scoffing down a family sized bar of Cadbury',j'nah mean??

I would also advise you to add an omega 3,6,9 supplement into your diet,Holland and Barret do a good one called Veratese.

I do believe the consistent taking of this along with modifying my diet has calmed down my cramps and general irritabiity around this time.

Sugar cravings are like any other cravings, they go if you stop taking the substance you crave for. Therefore you either use will-power or wean yourself off with raisons, honey, bannanas etc.

Fruits help a lot. I don't struggle with sugar cravings, but on the rare occasions that I do, fruits help. I also have a juicer and making those juices help curb any rare sugar cravings I may have. Hope that helps.

Sugar substitutes also perpetuate sugar cravings. Some people in their attempt to stay away from sugar will eat and drink diet and reduced/sugar-free things which contain sugar substitutes that not only still carry the sweet taste, but are often MUCH sweeter than normal sugar.

I got hooked on diet coke every morning, afternoon, and evening. As a result my taste for other things sweet picked up. I noticed when I weaned myself off of the diet soda (because of the carbonation), a direct result of that was that the other sweets I ate along with it became too "sweet" for me and I no longer craved them as much.

Also, I believe a high-carb diet could also aid in sugar-cravings.

I agree that sometimes when you think you're craving chocolate or any other specific, sweet food, your body is just merely craving any sugar (such as fructose found in fruit) or even just food in general because your blood-sugar is low. We tend to feed the idea of what we're craving, not what the body is actually craving.

There's this very interesting book (I'll have to look for it when I get the time) which shows a certain craving (a certain food), then shows a more healthful alternative that will feed that same craving. The book breaks down the food science of why your body is craving that specific food in terms of composition of nutrients, not taste, then offers a substitute of another food that will contain the same elements to feed the craving w/out all of the additives, fats, sugars etc.

so far sugar is winning
haagen dazs is not helping. i used to only buy one tub of haagen dazs a month but now the big supermarkets are practically giving the stuff away
asda £2 a tub sainsburys 2for£5 tesco £2.69 woah is me. i will be going food shopping soon and i am hoping that i skip that aisle

brushing my teeth every morning a holding a fresh is routine.

maybe my sweet cravings is a sign my blod sugar levels needs regulating or i should join a slimming club and ask them what to do about it
