Whats, ''Black Lion'' in Bantu/any African language? -
11-09-08, 03:59 PM
Am hoping to change my name but want to keep the whole Black Lion thing going on as I've become attached to it over time. Was wondering if anyone knew what, ''Black Lion'' is in an African language?
Thanks
B.L
Black Lion is... Agu Bu Oji in Igbo, Simba nyeusi in Swahili, the name of a hospital in Addis Adaba the capital of Ethiopia.

Nah... the Lion is a totem for us Jamaicans/carribbeans, kinda want to stick with the theme... why don't you like the translation?

.lol. Thought it might sound like something else, can't tell what it would sound like or have reference enough to link it from a linguistically if you get me... nothing that I know of to compare it to from an African point of view so I can't really tell if something spells or sounds lame unless I can compare it to other languages of the same family or understand the culture.
Might go to the library later on today and look around for a dictionary.

.lol. Its looking like either;
simba nyeusi - Swahili
Libhubesi lelimnyama - Siswati
or
Bhubesi
Bhubesi sounds cool but it just means lion and I can't combine it with simba, might go with Simba Nyeusi, if Bhubesi means ''Black Lion'' I'll go with it.
One minute... dosen't Nyeusi Simba mean, ''Black Lion'' rather than the other way around?

Simba nyeusi it is... thanks for the Igbo interpretation B.P, does sound more mystical. Might use it on Ligali.
Will ask K.f to change it.

On second thoughts I'll go with the Igbo version and use the Swahili on the other forum.

I like the way you sorted that one out. I like the way it sounds too
