Default Politisizing Notting Hill Carnival... - 13-09-08, 03:15 PM

After hearing about the trouble Toyin went through I'm actually surprised that we haven't already, at least to some extent.... have always wondered where our boycotts are, our anti chinese olympic pro tibet like protests geared toward raising awareness of our plight its all a bit too quiet considering what we're going through and I think the carnival would be the best place to really put it on the map... could even hire out floats under faulse pretences and raise banners and so on, ultimatly involve every Pro African group there it out there to come down and make a noise use it as a new political front... would feel a bit guilty about it, know that a lot of people make their money on those days but its nessary, should be a Ligali float making its way down the street, New Black Panther party out in full force handing out flyers and so on.

Would be intresting.

Although i believe in protest, Its not what that we need as UK citizens. No-one gives a flying phuck about our story and nor should we be looking to them to solve shit for us either.

Its affirmitave action by people who actually know how to lead, entreprise and deliver results.

And what better place to do that than the carnival?

Guess its what Toyin was trying for... can definitely be done as said I'm surprised most groups out there haven't seen it for what it is and taken to posting a presence there already, its the best place to be recruiting people and letting them know whats up, petitions, fund raising and so on.... that being said alot of groups don't seem to have the whole presence bit down as of yet, something Garvey was good at, set the precident for the NoI and others.

Its a platform we tapped into yet, as it is its pretty dry, probably end up being a coporate event, a bit of realism should shake off any false preceptions and put a stop to the grey rubbing, reclaim it as an African event which is essencially what Toyin was getting at.
