Two soldiers charged with murder

Two British soldiers have been charged with the murder of a woman in Tanzania, the MoD confirmed.
Nigel Moffett, 23, and Brett Mallinson, 20, appeared before Kisutu Resident Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with the murder of Conjesta Ulikaye.
Both soldiers were serving as troopers in the Light Dragoons regiment which is based at Swanton Morley, Norfolk.
They were in Tanzania on an army adventure training exercise in November when the alleged murder took place.
It is claimed the two men jointly murdered Ms Ulikaye on 10 November at the Silver Sands Beach Hotel in Dar-es-Salaam.
Remanded in custody
The pair did not enter a plea and the case was adjourned until 29 November when it is due to be heard before Tanzania's High Court.
Mr Moffett and Mr Mallinson were remanded in custody.
An MoD spokesman said the soldiers had arrived in Tanzania on 9 November and had been in the country for just one day when Ms Ulikaye was allegedly murdered on 10 November.
"We can confirm two soldiers have been charged with the murder of a local woman in Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania," he said.
"They have been remanded in custody in Tanzania while the local police carry out an investigation.
"The two soldiers were on an adventure training exercise which involved climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
"We are unable to comment on the investigation but we will be assisting police who are leading the inquiry."

@ Coltrane: Are there any additional details about the circumstances of this woman's murder?

This is like those footballers, man.

No proof yet but their pictures goes out. If they are found guilty then I'll see them, otherwise it's unfair.

The press cause the tensions not the people.

Thanks Coltrane...

I know I heard a while ago that a group of women from an African country (it may be Tanzania) were suing the MOD for rapes carried out by soldiers...

...I wonder what the outcome was...

...I will have to google it...

That was Kenya(north of Tanzania)which happens to be an east african country where the British colonials had so many concentration camps and they rapped Kikuyu and Maasai women there

the case is still going on
