is it just me, or have you also noticed the "drumming up of war fervour" here in the west. there has been an increase in the number of war games, especially related to the nature of the war in Iraq as opposed to the wars i witnessed before. there have been a number of ads and the resurgence of the kind of films that glorify war experiences, rather than the many more that vilify it. suddenly, you see more and more people wearing army uniforms, and it doesn't seem like a fashion thing in many cases. western governments are increasingly playing the game in a similar manner that nazi Germany did just before the war, where they go for a few freedoms at a time, starting with the unpopular elements in society, and even when they seem to make concesions, the alternative is much more draconic, as in tagging and house arrest for people who have been in prison for years without trial already. governments are stepping up their recruitment campaigns, whereas in the media the message we are getting is that one after another they are deciding to pull out of Iraq.

i remember what happened after 9/11, and realized even then that the major powers were prepared then to go all the way: the fascist way. something went wrong, but they are still determined. this stuff is scary... i feel that something major is gonna come up pretty soon.

I thinkit's an attempt to boost the testosterone and agression in white males because so many of them feel emasculated by societythese past few decades.

You have these so-called reality shows like The Apprentice, Survivor, The Contender and others trying to show white men that they too can be tough, suave, and sexy.

Add that to an influx of Country Music mixed with masculine patriotism and the pot boils over.

White men in places as far away as Germany and Russia are donnning big 10-Gallon hats and cowboy boots now.

there is a lot of drumming up of war fervour going on lately, and this has to do with future plans, and not as you suggest with pre-history or historicity...

Man actually I don't see anymore drumming than they have did in the past. Take for instance the Army, remember that catchy tune they had once, "Be all that you can be in the Army"? Now they have just changed their marketing to the "Army of One" commercials.

Come to think of it, when have you not seen military marketing? LOL Remember the ROTC program in school? LOL They even have the ROTC program in college. They come out and recruit at school. You run into them at the mall sometimes. They are on TV and this was wayyyy before 9/11. I can see where Spear is coming from though. Our country is always marketing the Army. We have just become immune to it is all

I see your point on videogames, one example is a game with great focus on North Korea with the gamer acting as an merc, I'm not going give the title as thats advertising.(and no I'm not a teenager, have been online before internet)

Combat-wear is fashion everywhere, also I'm glad you noticed the fascist way, if you REALLY look into what happened in nazi Germany you will notice the model that was used there, is gradually being implemented across western society, it's so slow people don't or wont even notice it, but if you take some time you will say to yourself... this is EXACTLY what nazi Germany had done before to its own society.

You've hit on a good point about the emasculation of man, look at the number of tv shows/sitcoms which usally show an effeminate weak male as a lead character.

Have you noticed that military is usally marketed in poorer areas? or should I say not as affluent as others, black, white makes no diffrence. I'm asumming this isn't just a UK thing.
There's Army Cadet Grounds 1/2 mile from where I live, Army/Navy recruitment on my high st. The Army used to come to my school many... many, many years ago. I know a handful of my friends who were in the Cadets and Army. That's acually quite a lot from a very small area....and thats just who I know!

nah man here they get everyone they can to join. Now they are having a hard time with the war in Iraq going on. People were cool to join on Afghanistan, but now with the senseless war in Iraq people will work at McDonald's before getting shot at over oil and WMD lies in in Iraq.
