Jenna Bush, daughter of U.S. President George W. Bush, hands out a picture of her pet to a Tanzanian child during a tour of the Equal Opportunity for All Trust Fund facilities in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, July 13, 2005. Jenna Bush is accompanying U.S. First Lady Laura Bush who is in Africa for an official visit to promote AIDS prevention and strengthen the role of women on the continent.

I wonder why Tanzanian girls should show any interest in the pets of
American presidents.

Coltrane,

Actually, I'm shocked that Bush let his daughters do there considering the things that he did in Senegaland Uganda. Far as this picture, I don't see anything wrong with Jenna showing the children a picture of a dog. She probably did that because she figure that some of those kids may like animals and they may like her dog. There are people who have never seen dogs in their livesthough those kids probably have. As an African American, there are some Africans and some Asians who tell me that they have been close to ceratin exotic animals that I have never seen and in some case wouldn't even dare to go to there with it. I wouldn't find it embarassing if they showed me a picture of it because I wonder about it. We know that Bush isn't dealing with a full deck, but far as what Jenna did, unless like her dad, did this for a publicity stunt. I will have to disagree with you on that one.

It is funny that some speak of Africa as a nation when it is clearly not. Especially those who see them selves as thequintessential africans.

This kind of reminds me of when George Foreman brought his dog (don't remember the name in English) to Zaire (Congo or DRC). The same kind of dog had been used by the Belgians to "abuse" (euphemism) the Zairians. Didn't make him (Foreman) popular at all.

However you must ask yourself what kind of person she is. She is most probably a n upperclass brat (feels redundant/unnecessary to use brat). Maybe she is like most americans (yes even the blacks ones are sometimes guilty of this) and think all africans live in huts made of elephant crap (this kind of means that all african countries have elephants).

So ye can't really blame tha girl. It's plain ignorance and Bush-heritage rather than stupidity...wait isn't that the same...

Either way she might also believe thatTanzanian children like many other children in the west might actually like dogs/pets. But then again, of all the things America has to offer (the statue ofliberty, Lil'Jon even Las freakingVegas) she choose a picture of the Presidents petsconfused3. Makes you wonder. I really don't think a dog would impresse your average tanzanian child. But then again I might be wrong

I don't want to be rude Col, but really, you have exegerrated the issue a bit. We are after all talking about the Bush Family. It could have been far far worse. And you know it. If this was the worst they could do, the world would be happy.
