how can Zim's economy grow and prosper without the need for foreign aid? what are the factors working against this? i mean you definitely want to see the country make it and stick up the middle finger. how to do this?"we do not need aid" is the cry of many Afrikans, yet we see a persident crucial to this fight go running/begging around the globe for money... chances are he will come back to square one. how to prevent this...

give your ideas...

...but has he really gone to china to beg? Isn’t this a media spin...heads of states make state visits in search of bilateral agreement all the time...

...i do not know, but the western media is half the problem they create the condition for self-fulfilling prophesies. For instance, in England the Muslim community make the argument that one of the reasons why young British Muslims became more radicalised was the media's persistence in highlighting the views of extremists like Abu Hamza. The near monopolistic coverage of these extremists created the impression that the Muslim world was a hobob of radicalism and theology, new philosophies were being created, young men were fighting wars and sacrificing themselves in Palestine all juxtaposed with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. The whole atmosphere was heady and revolutionary like some later day Islamic renascence. in this atmosphere-largely created by the media is it then a wonder that young men went out to make their mark and became subsequently exploited and helped to create the very conditions of heady, radical Islamic renascence the result of which we are now living with in England.

Therefore, the media has a responsibility, the western media has become corrupt, and I mean this sincerely. They have become too powerful; they distort information; outright lie and help create the very conditions especially in Africa they pretend they want to get rid of by highlighting and in so doing they appear to work as an extension of state propaganda. Right now, the western media is talking up an invasion of Zimbabwe.

so to the idea...its not new and it is boring...but seems sound for now and that is dialogue...

looking in as an outsider and I may be biased but my feelings are that we should- if we are given, the opportunity- put pressure for the world to dialogue with Zimbabwe not sanction her. Moreover, a time must come when the western powers stopped talking down to and waving a finger at African leaders as though they are naughty boys. I do not care how crap those leader are or are perceived to be, they are leaders of their country, the senior statesperson and must be shown respect. By respecting them, you respect their people. in this way you can affect changes through subtle influence becuse the leader will be more responsive instead of getting their back up and being obstinate.

for we are many...

refreshing... makes a lot of sense... i didn't quite look at it that way. and here i was thinking i was pretty much imune to this kind of propaganda. who would believe they would give a wholesome representation of reality?
