A fantastic victory against capitalist terrorism, privatization and globalisation: 5 years ago, the American market-fundamentalist multinational Bechtel went to Cochabamba, Bolivia's third largest city.
It struck a deal there with the right wing government and the WorldBank to take over ("invade and conquer") the water infrastructure and distribution of the city.
After the privatisation and the water grab deal was closed, Bechtel terrorized the city's people by increasing water prices by 100%. Just like that. From one day to another.
The ordinary citizens of Cochabamba obviously started to revolt and launched an anti-terror campaign. Things turned violent, with the market-fundamentalists using bullets against people, as usual.
But the people kept their courage. After all, they were fighting for access to a basic public good, namely drinking water for them and their children.
After more than five years of war, Bechtel started to cave in. The terrorists were being defeated.
The capitalist-fundamentalist organisation attempted to get a compensation of not less than 50 million dollars (three times the entire budget of the city) for it being ousted, and filed a complaint with the terrorist WorldBank. However, the freedom fighting citizens of Cochabamba were in fact so strong that they suceeded in internationalising the matter, and both terrorist organisations caved in and settled the conflict by packing their bags and running. The world had joined in against these market-fundamentalists, and defeated them.
Today, the citizens of Cochabamba enjoy the rule of Evo Morales, one of the world's leaders in the war against market-fundamentalism and capitalist terrorism. They now have water again, at reasonable prices.
