African Americans need to wake up and smell the coffee. We need to stop supporting these illegals. Why we must always be the benchmark and excuse for other people's struggles? Why must we keep fighting for other groups, but no one fights for us?

I was just about to post on this topic, but decided to check if anyone else had first...
To be quite frank, I am now disgusted with many of these Latinos, Chicanos, Hispanics, or whatever they want to be called. How the hell can sneaking their assesacross American bordersbe compared withperhaps the most inhumane historic grievance endured by any people in history?
The funny thing is most don't realize that they are digging themselves into a hole. The reason the large corporations (and big-time government officials) are lax on immigration is because it provides cheap labor to increase corporate profits. If anything, we as Africans-in-America should know all too well about this. Our enslavement (which provided virtually free labor for hundreds of years) in the Americas is what spawn Capitalism here and what boosted America as a world power so quickly. If corporations today could get free labor they would. These illegals are driving down the wages of what used to be good jobs paying $10, $12, or $15 an hour with benefits, but now they pay barely minimum wageand they will laugh at you if you ask for benefits. Most of these ignorant people supporting the immigration issue don't think until it is their job replaced by 1 or more Mexicans or other illegals who are willing to do the job for far less expense to the employer.
I am not suggesting a campaign against Latinos by us, but we should make it clear to them that they are disrespecting our rich history by equating their relatively trivial concerns with our historic struggles.

BBC,
I support them in one and in another I don't. Something should be done about the handling of illegal aliens, but not the way some lawmakers want to go about it. It shouldn't be the point that some of them are getting killed like dogs, like in the case of the minute men in Arizona or making it a felony for people smuggling them for hire in the workplace. In many ways, I get why these people are protesting, Bush had made promises to people that he didn't keep. In this case, he made a promise to them that may be on the borderline of being broken( since then, the GOP is being a little lenient on them). Something should be done about it, but not to the point where it's chaotic ,xenophobic and racist. There is where the problem lies with me.
When it comes to CBS comparing the fight to the civil rights movement, in some ways it can be compared to that. These people fought for what they believe in what our president promised them. Truthfully, I admire them for that. I thought that such things were dead because these days everybody is about fashion or talk but no action. There were people ou t there who made sacrifices. One manfrom Mexico, had a four year old daughter and a wife and he only had a job as a cook, but he said that he was willing to lose for his cause. With them I felt renewed that such power do exist in 2006.
What we don'tknow is that not all of those people we're illegal aliens, Mexican , Latno or even foreigners. There were some Americans Black and White who supported this cause. Some BLack foreigners and American Blacks supported their cause as well. They also had me, as a Black American, thinking about own rights.Althought it was about their rights to be in the US,in some ways we need to think about it because our rights are slowly being flushed down the toilet by Bush and as long as we're being complacent about it, then Bush and his cronies will be the same thing about it. Although the mast majority of the crowd were Latinos, it was diverse Mexicans, Peruvians, Colombians , Dominicans, Panamanians, Cubans etc. Some of them have differing attitudes about each other , but when those marches took place, They weren't those groups, theyput their differences aside and came out to be Latinos with a cause . Our government don't want to admit, but they are scared of this. Some of those Marched have taken place in my community. Although I haven't been to one the next one they I have I'm going to attend itin support of them. Not only shouldn't be about the rights of illegal, it should be a wake up call for every minority group to stand up and to save our rights.

civil rights movement was about AMERICANS who should have been guaranteed certain rights under the constitution and 13,14,15th amendments....but who did not get them.....
paying same taxes as other americans but not having same rights and freedoms....
Iam an immigrant myself and there is NO way that the fight for immigrants' rights equates to the civil rights movement......

They are illegal aliens. They do not have rights in this country. They want to be given something for nothing. They in no way deserve to be given amnesty. That was done in 1986 and it was failed then. Our elected officials have turned a blind eye on the issue for far too long. You can blame Bush all you want but the problem started well before he was in office and will continue well after he is gone. Bush's only allegance is to big business and their interest. He said he wanted a documented guest worker program which was stupid in the first place. They illegals took that to mean amnesty.
On the border of Texas they are reported in excess of 2 million hispanics attempting to cross illegally. Arizona has 15,000 per night crossing. And somehow some misguided people thingk this is a good thing. We have laws and they need to be enforced. This is in no way the same as the civil rights movement of the 60's. Again They people are Illegal aliens thats the issue people have not with legal immigration. And if that is being a xenophobe or racist so be it. Just remember the group who is being affected the most are young black men from the age of 18-35. If it's such a good thing tell that to the 300 black men who were told to go home in New Orleans after they already had jobs to clean up their city. They were replaced by illegal aliens.

It's all B.S. when the Mexicans talk about that they do the work that no other American wants. Blacks have been doing the lowest of the low jobs in this country for a hundred years such as: being a mother figure to rich white people's children, janitors, shoe shiners, slaves, sharecroppers, housekeeper, etc. Mexicans are becoming full of themselves when they compare themselves to our unique and great history.
I also think it is unfair that all these Mexicans can take jobs that many Americans need and not allowed carribeans such as Haitians come here and do the same thing. It's all political hypocrisy. This country is so quick to turn away the Haitians, which aren't our problem, that they would allow all these Mexicans that are now making noise in this country about how they, even as illegals deserve rights as much as legal citizens. Mexicans have to learn that when you come to this country illegally that is a crime, therefore that makes you a criminal because you came into this country by the illegal way. It's wrong that legal tax paying citizens have to pay for these people that get free benefits when the average American citizen can pay their way through life.
Also we must not only blame all of this on Mexicans. We need to blame a lot on this onto the whites that are hiring these Mexicans to work for cheap labor. I have a feeling that the government isn't going to ship these people back anytime soon, because these are nothing but modern day slaves and the Mexicans are too stupid to see that because they would much rather come to this country and make noise instead of going back to their own country and improving it so they won't have to come to this country illegally to make a living.

DThotheJ,
Staying in the United States illegally, no, but standing up for what they believe in( such as the freedom of Speech without persecution . Hmmm.. I don't know our " "great "prez is trying to change that) yes. I'm not agreeing with some of them getting a free ride here. I'm just paying attention to this because what may seem irrelevant to us now could end up be very relevant to us in the future--such as the rights whether were right or wrong about it.

Yeah, and Black people are getting displaced in jobs education and housing everyday because of the flood of illegal immigration to this country.
All other immigrant groups came here legally.
All legal residents of the U.S. should have civil rights, education, housing, health care, and social services … but if we turn America into poverty ridden “black hole of Calcutta “civil rights and “legal status aren’t going to mean much.
There is also a problem with many Mexican nationalist organization who openly advocate the eventual takeover of the southwest of the united states … I hear this all the time from hispanics people in los angeles. Some of them even say they want no whites and no N****rs (to use their language).
We’ve got a lot of Hispanic racist facist groups becoming powerful and influencing a lot of minds in Los Angeles – A bunch of mostly Spanish people from mexicoclaiming to be american indians are filling their peoples heads with hate toward blacks and whites. Some of these groups areeven calling for the expulsion of all non Hispanics/Mexicans from the united states. It's crazy but we are stupid if we don't take it seriously and crush it like we crush the white supreamacist organizations. We don't need this s*hit in 21st century america.
http://www.mexica-movement.org/ENTERHERETEXTONLY.htm
So yes, I have a problem with illegal immigration from mexico. We have got to get control of the border first … then maybe we can talk about legalizing the illegal immigrants that are here.
