Is US policy affecting Africa’s battle against Aids?

Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy on Aids, has criticised the US for placing too much emphasis on promoting abstinence.

Speaking at the 16th International Aids Conference in Toronto, Dr Lewis also accused the West of failing to deliver on funding commitments made to fight the disease.

Sub-Saharan Africa remains the epicentre of the Aids pandemic with 2 million deaths in the region last year.

Question prompted by this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4798343.stm

has the west succeeded in killing off all the HIV/AIDS dissidents in Africa and elsewhereso that western population control policy has come to stay? where are the comments from that group of people that we became used to in the past? has the argument about denial won?

the figures of reduction of HIV/AIDS preponderance in Uganda do not add up, unless all the sufferers died, which is not possible with a disease that kills slowly,in which casewhat's the point of all that spending on toxic ARV medication???!!now they are talking abstinence...

how in heaven's name are we to take seriously and as genuine concern a pledge to appropriate $15 billiion to the fight against HIV/AIDS, when the same people giving the moneyfail to deliver on diseases and wars that are killing Africans in droves... this to me is pure hypocrisy. unless you are deaf, dumb and stupid as heck, thedouble, even triple standard being applied here clearly reveals an underlying need to just control the populations of the continent, no? via complaisant puppet simpleton dunderhead regimes beholden to western expatriate advise who cannot smell the coffee even when it was poured right down their noses.

what an ish of a situation this is. what hell my people are going through, though of course I know/am confidentthe devilwill never win this war.

sad about Africans binging, wearing different clothes every day, so they cannot be considered as suspects of the disease. this goes to show how deeply what I call an AIDS complex has gripped the imagination of the African worldwide, how well the fascists have done compared to the logical dissidents. now they can just take us out at random, and point out the disease as the cause. Victor Yushencko of Belarus must be very happy he is white...

my question is, if our people are mentally so weak, what other trick can they fall for? what other diabolical plan will get their minds so negatively tuned they start to self destruct? when will this ish end?

Ido not easily rant, dude, their worst fear, ahem! read the post again and you will notice I am making a point.know that I am not the emasculated one whose livelihood depends onsneakingbehindanother othermen just so I can shine, or eat. sneak behind another man? moi? I am man enough as it is I do not need to get on edge when he walks by/look at another just in case he outdoes me in something. what am I, a functioningidiot? the almighty did notdesign me to function like a leach.

back to the point:just wondering at the lack of dissident input in the discussions after the article... otherwise it is plain the United Nations is in cohorts with the west, even though they try to play the good guy sometimes.the western $15 billion pledge to deal with the HIV/AIDS pandemic on the continent of Afrika, are all clearly plans aimed at controlling Afrikan populations, and this should be as plain as day. the abstinence thingy advocated by the US of Amerikkka ties in with that agenda. the obvious point is to stop Afrikans from procreating as well as they do, to keep the populations low so thatwe do not turn the economic tables by force of numbers when everything else has failed.

there's so much going onwith the motherland that required the kind of urgent attention HIV/AIDS is receiving ($$$) decades ago: poverty, disease, wars... and these clowns have the nerve to step in now with offers of funds, medication and some abstinence advise, ignoring everything else that's killing Afrikans, and expect ALL Afrikans not to smell a rat?

on the level of the virus, something I still consider a myth, what's the point of giving a man/woman/child that's starving and exposed to all these factors causing death and ill health the drug of last resort, that toxic substance that more kills than heals, NEVIRAPINE. that's murder... by their own reckoning, HIV/AIDS virus isn't what kills you in the long run. it's the damage it does to your immune system causing opportunistic infections, no?logic dictates if you are dealing with a disease that does not have a cure, youtackle the others that do, especially those that could take advantage of the damaged immune system. it would have made much more sense if these goowill gestures had been directed at things that are actually causing Afrikans to be weak. whats the point of medicating a man/woman/child whose standard of living could cause damage to the imune system anyway, without first removing the causes of disease that could take advantage of the weakened body?

all the stuff these people are doing doesn't make sense, and it's just a pity most of our Afrikan leaders are too thick to see through the lie.

the pledges are all bogus becausethey have strings attached..

like I give you 10 dollars......but you must hire my cousin to be the director of the group that handles the money....and pay him 6 dollars...

Think the leaders of some of these countries have failed their people by trusting outsiders anyway....

west has never had the best intentions of darker people in mind ....

the perception outside of the continent is that...."their leaders can't do anything..so we must rescue these people"....and that's justgarbage....BUT people in charge in some of these countries have to stop bending over for white folks like that....

my post is sacarsm at the shenanigans of the UN and the west regarding the HIV/AIDS pandemic supposed to bedecimating populationsin Afrika. check them out with this article posing as the magnanimous, arguing with the other magnanimous party, when a little bit of scrutiny reveals their bad intentions. makes you revisit statementsmade by past activists like"they may act like they mean you well while in actual fact they do not".

this whole aid debate and the turns it is taking is becoming overly comical, only problem is people are being killed in the most inhumane methods you can imagine.
