The sad thing about this article is that the essence of it is true. The truth hurts. I just hope this sets more black people in motion towards making real progress. Chris Rock, a black comedian, even joked that blacks don’t read.

For those of you who heard it, this is the article Dee Lee was reading the other morning on a New York radio station. For those of you who didn’t hear it, this is very deep. This is a heavy piece and Caucasian wrote it.

They are still our slaves we can continue to reap profits from the blacks without effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves. Ignorance, Greed and Selfishness.



Their Ignorance is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, ‘The best way to hide something from black people is to put it in a book’. We now live in the information age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own black bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.



Greed is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%)



Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing.



They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or Fubu and they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives them “Status� or that they have achieved their Dream. They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities.



With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media and often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn’t want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!) They’ll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.



Selfishness, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A “Talented Tenth� he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some “form� of success. However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn’t read that the “Talented Tenth� was then responsible to aid the Non Talented Ninety % in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavour of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of their goal. Their so called help organisations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community.



They are content to sit in conferences and conversations in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not to the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that Together Each Achieves More(Team)



They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own, as a matter of fact most of those Buppies are but one or two pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our rooms.



Yes, we will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are “helping� their communities by paying dues to organisations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels. By the way don’t worry about any of them reading this letter, remember, They Don’t Read!!!!

Shakac: please don't take offence ok, but with respect.....I'm one of those who gets very tired of the constant flow of emotive and brow beating messages from..'well meaning' prophets, messengers ,leaders or (insert your own title here)..who every so often come out with what they think are these profound revelations that they insist on sharing in the MOST patronising way possible... The telling you poor ignorant dumb n-wordwhat you'resupposed to be aware of routine...the I insist on tellingyou how 'dumb'you allare for not knowing what they know..routine...

Not only amI getting a touchtired of it..I get very fed of it and recently this sangtimounous preaching is really beginning to get on my last nerve.. Why do people ASSume that if you're not behaving as they do..they you must be 'asleep', unconcious or worse ignorant!!?

Why do people insist on this patronising approach as a means of motivating black (African) people? Its lazy, insulting, patronising and ineffective...yet guaranteed if its the not the willie lynch letter, its the hide it in a book strategy sent out to enlighten us poor negros... Maybe i'm out of order but isn't that shit tired now?

Personally if people have to preach a message then at least use some imagination instead of this type of recycled preaching by numbers tactic..

@Kunjufu, I hope by now you know I respect what you have said in previous post’s regarding the destruction of the youth in our community… However, think about it this way, as one becomes more conscious to what is happening to our people in western societies, one can also become over zealous as to what our progression ought to be as I have also done the same thing as Shakac; which is to post information wanting to knock heads with like minded people about how we as a people can unite and indeed progress and overcome our current situation. I too was met with a certain amount of opposition as to the root causes of the discourse. Basically, maybe it would be more encouraging for those of us on BNV who have greater insight into much of the issue’s we face (and there are many), to encourage those of us who are becoming more and more enlightened to how we can move forward or suggest things we too can do, which in my opinion would be more progressive than just pissing on someone’s enthusiasm. Share you knowledge and wisdom, as it is obvious you and many other posters are much more adept to the progression our people. I am not suggesting I or others indeed can not think for ourselves, but it is a given that people think and view things in different ways…. Let us help enlighten each other in a progressive manner is all I am suggesting.

This is another Willie Lynch speech which is used every so often to rile up Africans who will never do anything as a result of these e-mails.

Africans need to be very careful about these things because they are often used against you when in an arguement. The notion that it's just Africans who don't read is a gross generalisation and is completely unfounded because Africans do read recreationally. These speeches are used for the purpose of generating pub conversation where Africans sit around and begin talking about how negative and damaged the situation is for Africans, never coming to any conclusion, never thinking of solutions, simply attacking the character of Africans and internalising the negativity.

One of my mothers friends forwarded this letter to me and I told my mum I would post it onto the bnv forum. I also told her that I bet it is going to get ridiculed by some black activist and I have been proved right.

Listen to me I am sick of my fellow black people trying to promote black consciousness and yet when it come to the bottom line it is all empty words. (In Jamiaca we say empyt barrels make the most noise) If you feel so upset about such things then do something that can be measured in real terms by black people.

You can start by getting your African brothers to start seeing the world in the same way as the Jamaican that means no bowing to the whiteman. Stop doing the whitemans dirty work at the expense of the caribbean man.

Do something to stop oursistas from wearing the weave and adopting their slack ways sexually. In Britain where is the blackman going because I don't know!!!!

I am sick of seeing my fellow Jamaicans wasting bottles of champaign to throw all over their friend who is celebrating a birthday and at the same time they have people back home in need of food, clothes and rent money.

I am sick of seeing gal with the latest clothes but no food in the fridge. This letter may be patronising but it is true in alot of ways.

Black music may be cool but the videos that promote them are degrading and bringing our people down whether bashment or RNB. In these times we shouldn't be reading that black boys are behind their counterparts at school because if we really cared the people in our society that have the brains would be offering their services free to help elevate our youth.

I am just wondering how this 'heavy piece' wound right on the desk of a New York radio station. Those station should be pulling in 100's of hate mail a week from beleaguer listeners and this 'one' stood out as a 'truth hurts'. Did it come in the color paper or have a college stamp on it from all the mounds of black and white.

I will say this again because people seem to be missing this. In all probability this letter is a HOAX. I posted two links above which explains the origins of these letters via the willie lynch speech, these letters are numerous in number and are being created for a specific purpose.

For the thread starter. The second link I posted above is definitely for you. Your attitude is definitely of the 10% of respondents. You should take your own advice and read.
