What did Britain's "top cop" have to say about Metropolitan Police officers involved in 'gun crime' (in case you need a reminder) ...

24 hours after the execution, on the morning of 23 July 2005, a Scotland Yard spokesman said:

"The man who was shot was under police observation. He had emerged from a house that itself was under observation in connection to the bombing incidents. He was followed by surveillance officers to the station. His clothing and his behaviour at the station added to their suspicions. The investigation into the circumstances of the death is being pursued."

Sir Ian Blair was reportedly all smiles when he met a television camera crew. He said:

"The Met is playing out of its socks. I am very pleased with what is happening"
