Mildy amusing thatpeople missed this one, or seem to be blissfully ignoring it like it never happened. It even made the front page of the Sun for heaven's sake. But nope, silence....anyway...... Further proof that the generation below us probably is the last.

Tributes to 'ambushed' schoolboy

Press Association
Friday March 16, 2007 7:58 PM

Tributes have been paid to a 16-year-old boy who was "ambushed" and then stabbed to death in the street in front of a baying crowd of schoolchildren.

Kodjo Yenga, of Portland Road, west London, died from a single stab wound to the heart.

Two local teenagers - aged 14 and 16 - were arrested at their homes on Friday morning and a warrant of further detention was granted for seven young males, aged between 13 and 21, arrested on Wednesday.

Around 40 witnesses have already come forward, and police are continuing their hunt for the murder weapon.

Kodjo's girlfriend described how she held him in her arms as he lay dying - and described his killing as a "set up".

Witnesses have also said that schoolchildren gathered and chanted "kill him" as the teenager was attacked in Hammersmith Grove, west London, on Wednesday afternoon.

A steady stream of youngsters visited a graffiti memorial on Friday afternoon, close to the scene of Kodjo's death, and held each other for comfort.

Kodjo's girlfriend, known as Cookie, told London's Evening Standard newspaper that she was with her boyfriend when they were "ambushed". She told the newspaper a boy approached him and started picking a fight. She said: "Kodjo is not afraid of anyone so he said: 'Come on, let's do this'. They went round a corner to be somewhere a bit quieter but we were ambushed. Suddenly all these boys came from round the corner. They all had weapons - knives, hammers and baseball bats. It was a set up. I could not believe what was happening."

Kodjo's headteacher described the A-level student as "friendly, gentle and peaceful". Paul O'Shea, principal of St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College in west London, also said Kodjo had an "excellent record" from a school in nearby Hammersmith and joined the college in 2005. He said: "He was a fine young man and we will miss him greatly."

Speaking at the scene of the tragedy, Detective Superintendent Vic Rae said Kodjo was the victim of a meaningless and despicable crime. He said: "I'm here ... to appeal for witnesses into the senseless murder of Kodjo, a young man who had his whole life before him."

A further two youths have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kodjo Yenga, the 16-year-old killed on Wednesday in west London.

Two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16, were arrested at their west London homes on Friday morning.
Kodjo, of Portland Road, Notting Hill, was "chased beaten and then stabbed" through the heart, police have said.
Nine people in total, aged 13 to 21, have been arrested and are being questioned at separate police stations.
Teachers and friends have paid tribute to Kodjo, with flowers and candles left at a makeshift shrine near the row of shops where he was stabbed.
Messages posted on Kodjo's personal webpage said that he would be "dearly missed" and would "never be forgotten".
'Able student'
Paul O'Shea, principal of St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College where Kodjo was a student, called him "a friendly, gentle and peaceful young man".
According to Mr O'Shea, Kodjo was "an able student... who was regarded with great affection by his fellow students and his teachers".
"He was a credit to his mother and wider family, to whom all the students and staff at St Charles College offer their heart-felt condolences."
Those sentiments have been echoed by users of the Bebo website, on which Kodjo had a webpage under the nickname Kizzle Sweet-thug.

People have left tributes on a wall and flowers near the scene
"I love u bruva," reads one posting, while another describes him as a "fallen soulja" who was "loved dearly".
Det Ch Insp Tony Nash said: "We are talking about the senseless taking of a 16-year-old boy's life. This is a meaningless crime and a despicable crime.
"We are looking at a nightmare come true for one young man and his family and friends."
The officer said Kodjo was walking in Hammersmith Grove with his girlfriend when he was approached by a large group of youths.
"He was then chased, caught, beaten and stabbed," Det Ch Insp Nash said.

Just what do people do in those parts of London anyway? Why haven't adults just battered the children yet? Better yet, if the adults actually had a community spirit then their children would more open to that sort of postive influence. Instead, they just seem to hate everyone that actually looks like them.

Didn't miss this news however, people become immune to this sort of news...hoping it will go away if it's ignored.

"...the generation below us probably is the last"I hear that.

"...if the adults actually had a community spirit then their children would more open to that sort of postive influence. Instead, they just seem to hate everyone that actually looks like them." And I hear this.

Rest in peace Kodjo Yenga who was killed for nothing.

To be honest Peacemaker, I'm kinda bored of news like this. I refuse to watch news channels like BBC etc. covering news like this when they don't ever show africans in a positive light. EVER. Its like the only time a black face on telly is when there's a shooting, stabbing or when some coon ass idiot is 'entertaining'.

It pisses me off.

As usual all the tributes come pouring in, 'he was a sweet boy', 'never hurt anyone', and all the girls will come out and cry for him. But will they give up the perp? Who knows...

Still, another young african live slain. RiP

call me cold, but i have to agree. i usually flip the page or flick the switch when i come across stories like this, which is just too damn much of late.

Ironically enough he had just taken part in a doumentary type thing for MTV saying he believed the whole claim about rampant knife culture to be exagerated. Didn;t see it myself, but read it on teletext news service.

I think it's telling that 40 people came forward with information.

They've charged 2 13 year olds, among others, with his murder........

We moan if there's no coverage, we moan if this is, so what to do?confused3

Personally, I'm glad for the coverage, and the fact that people are actually coming forward naming names means a hell of a lot.

I saw his interview with MTV on the BBC this morning. How ironic that he said the media blew the knife attacks out of proportion.

it pains me to say this.....but should the parents of very young children and indeed the state, focus on stearing children under the age of -say-7 away from crime/ gangs etccc instead of the (12 and 17 year old) teenage youths of today,

after all the states resources are finite, and for many black teens of today ( and iam in no way sayingallof them ) there is no way of totally rehabilitating them....

and this is why i constantly say that more positive role models are needed at primary level, not whn they are already half way gone.

Ditto.

What this does is spread fear more than anything else... can be a clash of titans just making eye contact with a brother on the street sometimes.

“There is no harder misfortune in all human history than when the powerful of the earth are not also the first men. Then everything becomes false and awry and monstrous. And when they are even the last men and more beast than man, then the value of rabble rises higher and higher and at last the rabble-virtue says: Behold, I alone am virtue.”- S.A.Israel

True, but kind of sad that the lad was on some MTV show talking about knife crime a few days earlier. I'd wager that is why he was ambushed. Which means something is seriously wrong.
