Police drafted in as store opens

Around 50 Primark stores have been opened in England this year.Police officers were called to control crowds at the opening of a new department store in Oxford Street.
Reinforcements had to be brought in to control the crush when pressure from hundreds of people queuing at the new Primark store broke one of the doors.
Less than two hours after doors opened, shoppers were being let into on a one in, one out basis.
The 70,000 sq ft (6,500 sq m) store near Marble Arch sells clothes for men, women and children and homeware.
Centre of gravity
Geoff Lancaster from Primark said: "We've been dealing with the police throughout the run-up to this and we had double security drafted in for the opening.
"But there have been openings all round the country, we've done 50 stores in England this year so we're quite used to opening. But this is unprecedented."
Jeremy Baker, retail analyst from London Met University said the store would have a big impact.
He said: "Primark is such a big name and made such a difference to British shopping that it's just going to pull the centre of gravity from the other end of Oxford Street, right up to here."

This is just crazy! See more pics at link:

Reminds me of the madness when they opened a new Ikea store in NorthLondon a couple of years back.

Shoot, now I'm gonna have to buy my shit from Peacocks and Bonmarche. Primark has become too respectable and "trendy". Not too long ago some young ladies I know used to take Zara and Denhams bags with them when they went to shop at Primark to put their items in some they wouldn't be seen with Primark bags. Interesting the power of hype and publicity, just once thou would like to see a "crush" at the opening of something other then some consumerist wankfest.

Can you imagine how hard the executives of Primark must be laughing at us...it would be the same as Gerald Ratner laughing at the fools buying his 'crap'!!!

Things have moved on. A few years back everyone was bussing the Giorgio Armani and Versace with pride.

Now pepes are like "phuck that, £100 for one sock. Im wearing my Primark, 7 for the price of 1clothes, with pride".

interesting comments on the sun website:

"I was staggered by the pictures of the mob at the opening of the Primark store in Oxford Street. Is this actually London or a grubby African township during a riot. "

"It was an interesting cultural mix that stormed the store.......I'll not comment on this anymore, as it is difficult to avoid the 'racist' slur, however, captain snort made an astute analogy"

"After reading the news papers and viewing the photographs i have to agree with captainsnort. This was really awful and degrading and there was not many ethnic whites in the crowd! it was like a free for all for a bowl of rice. No wonder that we have such a low opinion of immigrants if they are willing to trample each other to death for cheap clothes."

for clarification, captainsnort is the one who wrote the first comment.

Primark clothes may be cheap but they are worth every penny, it baffles me why anyone would choose to pay for the same quality at 10 times as much.

long before colleen and the wags shopped in primark primark always filled up and sold clothes quickly. queing inside primark is standard. primark in bull ring gives a new meaning to the queueing system

i see peacocks moving up a gear next.

most prices in stores are flated so by shopping at the cheaper shops you get better for your money

yes now the pics, should have known nuff black folk there as London does have 40-60% if not more of the uk black populis alone.

people have waiting patiently for this one. selfridges has met a match

@newstyle peacocks as all good they have access to more customers than topshop as they go up to size 20 something the clothes not just the odd outfit as what topshop do

as for bonmarche i was told that was grannies but hey

Yeah this is not even an excuse, because at first glance it looks it could be so. However this store was in West End where there isnt a high % of blacks living. Nah pepes travelled there to behave like this...lol.
