It is of concern that the petition to stop the mega mosque on the London Olympic site remains, although the government has been urged to drop it. The petition which has been described as being supported by the British National Party and Neo Nazi groups states;

"We the Christian population of this great country England would like the proposed plan to build a Mega Mosque in East London Scrapped. This will only cause terrible violence and suffering and more money should go into the NHS."

What this "terrible violence and suffering" is considered to consist of is beyond by comprehension, but then racists do tend to be relatively brainless. Even though Black Information Link, Islamophobia Watch and MPACUK are amongst those questioning the petition, it’s supporters and its wording, the government has failed to respond to the situation.

So if you think that your vote for New Labour should not mean a vote for racism and Islamophobia, then email 10 Downing Street (webmaster@pmo.gov.uk) to request that these words be removed or failing that, the whole petition taken off line.

(My own blog lists an example of those sigining the petition, which Ive not posted here due to the racist nature of the wording used!)

Personally I think the mosque is a good idea as long as its run and managed by credible people.

However, if it is decided that it will not go ahead, this should not be due to the requests of right wing racists.

If we allow the racists to win when 'it doesnt affect us', then they'll also win when it does!

I dont think those Kadianis should buld that mosque.

Of course, if it does go ahead it should be built and managed by credible people. Its just if it doesnt go ahead, this should be based on good reasoning, and not because of the campaining of the BNP.

Surely the issue is not about christian or muslim or if the mosque should or should not be allowed(my personal opinion if they can afford to build it. And within the regulation guidlines then why not personally think they can be quite attractive and the evening call to pray is soothing-more so then bells clanging) And yes I am a christian...sort of.

The real issue here is BNP tactics and goverment policy.

Thats exactly my concern.

The BNP should not be influencing government policy.

Whats even more concerning is that the government doesnt seem tbe to bothered in taking steps to ensure it doesnt appear to us that it is being influenced by the BNP.

not surprised the bnp would jum on the bandwagon. i think the petition should more request and equally cost worthy and size church and then there would be no complaints. the kicc doesnt count imo
