Roland Robinson has a simple, straightforward message for young men in Memphis -- Pull Your Pants Up.
The 35-year-old Robinson describes himself as a visionary and calls his campaign a mission.
Robinson says young guys wearing their pants at half mast says "disrespect" and "I don't care" and contends his real message is to pull up a state of mind.
He recently launched a Web site PullYourPantsUpMission.com.
On it, Robinson states the purpose is to keep the biblical commandments, change young people's lives for the better and motivate people to work together. The site also quotes Scripture.
Robinson is black and aims his message at young black men, saying wearing trousers well below their waists diminishes them and their communities.
Robinson also has produced a CD which contains hip-hop songs that encourage kids to seek self-respect and self-control.
Memphis school board member and pastor Kenneth Whalum Junior applauds the concept. The minister of New Olivet Baptist Church, Whalum says youngsters wearing their pants low reflects poorly on black culture.
