Balboa,

My feelings are mixed about it. I'm not a parent, but if I were one of a college aged student at VATech, I would ask media about their sensitivity of the families of the deceased. Why show it? at least if they wanted to show they should have showed it way later. I just felt that it was too soon for them to show. Everybody is trying to heal and for them to show this two days after the incident is just plain awful. For myself, I looked at a little at it and was stunned at his words.

Hmmm... has anyone noticed they've upped the anti on what they show on the news in general, as in they've gotten more graphic?

The net ''helps'' if thats a good thing or not... I'm not sure....

Went on a holiday to Portugal a while ago with family, we were taken around by a couple who were showing us apartments and what not, the guy was really timid and you could tell his wife wore the trousers as though the guy had a problem and she had to look after him. They liked travelling about the place and what not.It was after a chat about Brazil that we got the impression that the guy had seen something while in brazil that shook him up, more or less unnerved him to the point where he wasn't himself anymore, tough to explain but from then on I've taken to understanding that because we (for the most part) areso... bubble wrapped?... over here in the west I seriously doubt many of us could even go to certain areas of the developing world and wittness what goes on out there. You'd have todetach yourselffrom it almost completely to be able to cope in certain places, you'd have to re-evaluate your understanding of humanity and understand thatlives aren't, ''worth'' what they are or seem to bein other places. Like its a daily occurance to see achild you saw walking around one daylaying dead in the street the next or worse.

So in that sence its a reality check watching certain things because thats whats happening, no point in being blind to it all. Not that I sit around and watchclips of people dying but you get my point.

........and bringing it back to cho for a second , i was shocked to see those american college students' surprise at hearing of chos torments on cd ...how can five people living in the same room not care enough about their fellow student to get involved....

they were so insulated into thinking that any one different, or ill, should be shunned, instead of helped. they were sleeping in an intimate enviroment for a term or so and didn't even care enough to be concerned about his mental welfare, they were so desensitized from showing empathy to their fellow student....i can imagine the mentality that classifies cool, wierd, and nerd...

Mike,

I highly agree with you. I know that everytime I bring up a subject like that to people, they seem so indifferent about it and tell you " Ahhh, it's a problem that is never going to go away" like they are telling me that since some people harbor those feelings, it's a let bygones be bygones kind of attitude. People are too wrapped up in their world. Of course they may be a little concerned about it, but after two or three days of the incident, they' ll go on about their business and forget about it happening to them.

There is a little boy who lives on my street and he has some kind of problem--Autism. sometimes he is aware of his world and other times, he is not. He's about seven years old. Anyways, A lot of kids pick on him because he sometimes talk to himself. Most of the people on my street are indifferent about him and one of the mothers ( who I cannot stand to the fullest) was ( along with her two kids) were so mean to that boy, though he wasn't aware what they were saying to him. When I looked at that I was like" She cannot be much of a woman and a human being to be cruel to that kid". I told my little nephews and another friend of their's not to bully him because he cannot help himself. One day one of the other kids picked on him and my nephews told him not to tease him, then he turned on him and called my nephew " stupid" and teased him. That's of when push came to shove, my nephew tore him up , mainly by himself, but his other two brothers came in and dogged him as well. He never came around again.I don't advocate fighting unless, in this case, was necessary.

I still think about that little boy. I seen him get off the bus and kids picked on him there. The kids do it on the street . The other little boy who tried to fight my nephew, his mom told him " That he can hit anybody". (For the most part, his mother is alley-batwith no restraint). Then I remembred my mom telling him. You're not going be able to hit everybody who talk about you" and she is right. He though that he is big and bad , but there are people ready to bring him down to his knees. People pick on that boy and I wonder will he become more aware of his world and get angry at those who teased him? Though I'm not saying he will, but he could, just like Cho did to those people at Virginia Tech. I've even read of a case where on guy, at the age of 28, killed a former classmate for bullying him.

Cho may have had some initial problems in his life, but I believe the many years of him getting teased, bullied and trying to fit in with society really got next to him. It ironic. A couple of weeks back, there was another little boy in my nephews class who teased a classmate and she hit him in the eye. Both were sent to the principals office. The little got suspended , while the little girl was only suspended for three. The parent could understand it. The principal said " because he was bullying her" and his teacher told him " you reaped what you sowed". While not everybody deserved their fate and especially in the VATech massacre, far as some people if they dished out the problem, eventually, it will come back to haunt them in some way.
