Default Did anyone see BBC 1 last night??? - 26-06-07, 11:02 AM

I was watching the BBC 1 show about endangered spieces with Will Young last night and I have to admit I was very disappointed to see Africans buying and selling Gorilla meat!!!

Whilst I accept this is totally alien to me coming from a caribbean family and my reponse may seem unfair. I find it completely unacceptable for any human to eat primates. They are too close to human's and it should be eradicated with immediate effect.

The saddest part for me was the baby Gorilla's taken from their mother's. It was said that if they fail to bond with a surigate mother they curl up and die, such is their sensitivity and dependance on someone.

I have known for a long time that bush meat is anything brought back from the jungle but to date I have never met an African that admits to eating apes. The African that did on the TV said the meat was very sweet ( how gross ).

Every country eats some animal that other countries find abhorrent you only have to look at Korea farming dogs for food to know this but please with the aid of this forum lets put an end to this vile practice now.

Have you tried it...?

Think you've responded well to them airing it in the first place, bet they showed the most gruesome hairless, half cook gorilla with things hanging out of it all for the veiwing pleasure of more civilized nations who only eat weird things if it has a fancyful name... prehaps we should do that, rename Gorilla meat to make it more pallatable... am sure you can get a petition going.

They eat animal testicles in China btw, full on, no holds barred, hardly cooked or prepared beyond distinction, shlongs of various animals... including those of cats, dogs and bulls.

Black Lion is... Agu Bu Oji in Igbo, Simba nyeusi in Swahili, the name of a hospital in Addis Adaba the capital of Ethiopia.

I hope we can get something going because it has really got under my skin. You are right also they did capture gruesome images of Gorilla's for sale.

The funny thing is I had the most heated argument with a white guy at my last job about African's eating Monkeys as I didn't believe they did at the time, especially as he was telling one of my team from eastern europe that this was the cause of aids in South Africa.

The show from Cameroon also informed us that anything from Elephant to Rhinos could be purchased in the markets there. I can just about accept eating anything but an exception has to made for primates.

Common BN lets here your views on this subject we cannot bury our heads in the sand on this one. I don't really care what white people feel is fit for human consumption as they won't eat Goat meat just as I won't eat Lamb. It's cultural. The French eat horses and Brits don't so why should I care. I do care about creatures that appear to have human traits hence the reason why I don't eat Lamb. It is said that Lamb cries living eye water before going to the slaughter. It is only one of two animals that does this

Do I detect that people are frightened of discussing this subject!!!

Lets be clear here Africans are not the only people that eat Monkeys. The Arabs eat their brains as a delicacy. The native Indians of Brazil also eat primates.

So clearly this is not unique to Africa.

Please discuss........

People here are frightened of discussing many subjects. However you're not getting responses for one reason, mostly. You have transgressed the unwritten rule - "Do not say bad stuff of any description about Africans on BNVillage."

You're right, of course people shouldn't eat gorillas, or monkeys. It is repellent.

The Aids/Monkey theory is that the Green Monkey version of the disease, some sort of simian immune deficiency virus, achieved species cross-over by being ingested by locals who regularly ate the monkeys.
