An 11-year-boy has died after being shot in the neck in the Croxteth area of Liverpool, police said.
The incident happened shortly after 1930 BST in the car park of the Fir Tree public house on Fir Tree Drive.

Police said the victim was with two other boys when someone rode past on a bicycle and fired three shots, one of which hit the boy.

He was rushed to Alder Hey Hospital but police later confirmed that he had died.

Officers are at the scene and police are treating the shooting as a major incident. No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the shooting.

'Gangs of youths'

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We treated an 11-year-old with serious gunshot wounds."

He added a bullet had hit the boy in his neck leaving him in a critical condition.

The boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The area around the pub was made a "designated area" by police last year, meaning officers could move people away from the area.

The move came in response to concerns raised by local residents about youths gathering outside the pub and local shops.

At the time, Neighbourhood Inspector Louise Harrison said: "The designated area has been introduced in response to concerns about gangs of youths who hang around the local area behaving in an anti social way."

Terrible....it may sound horrible to say but please not another black yoot. Anyone with children under this age just think about preparing them for a life expectancy of 11.

Yep - your 11 year old yoot is outside kicking ball and gets a bullet in his neck. Arrests have been made, heaven help us if they are black....they'll be calling the soldiers back from Iraq!

I think that the Merseyside Police Force and the government do.

Social problems affect all of society..as the song goes just because you live up in the hills and I'm down here on the ground, all the things that affect me, it directly affects you, whether you know it or not....where all in this thing together. That's a no brainer...in the same way a recession affects us all....but be it jail, babymothers the lack of equal opportunities, decent housing or murders, we are an oppressed people, disproportionate representation is our problem...I don't expect those who assist in creating the problem to try and solve the problem on an 'it affects as all the same flex'. We all no it's societies problem but we also know the realities of living in babylon...that's our problem....but maybe it really is the path of least resistance to wait for babylon to change to accommodate us.

Merseyside was precisely why I thought the victim was white. Equally I believe the perpetrators to be white....that simply means white people are now being affected by black people - Hell and powder house if they are black. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because of the age of this boy but it's already apparent the difference in the way this is being reported.

When a black boy dies it's an operation trident related incident unless proved otherwise....a whit is totally innocent unless proved otherwise. But if it's a perplexion of the mind then if we're honest it's no different in us reporting this believeing a blackie is in the equation somewhere.

I have to contend that I believe it is a major problem within our community. Yes the poor Lad was killed. And it's sad. Wrong. Evil even!

Goverment wants to make new laws, the Prime Minster has a word to say to the Media about this "Crisis" and the Childrens Minster is getting involved and the Media giving it Front Page billing. And for sure we have not heard the last of this. Why? Because one of their own was a victum.
