I said to her, "Yeah, there is stuff for real consideration in what Wright is saying, but the 'timing' of it is not good for Obama, and no wonder the man is hopping mad at Wright."

Obama has to win over Whites to stand any chance of election (even if every last man jack AA votes for him) and that's a fact.....and basically, anything that gives Whites the heebeejeebees (colly-wobbles if you prefer) will see them running to the hills to seek out one of their own for President. Obama has been playing a game of 'keeping it safe' and trying his damnest to ensure that whites feel they are 'safe' in his hands (jeeze, this is politics after all), so he can't be seen to be associated with..even loosely...with anyone or anything that has no qualms in denouncing the WHITE ESTABLISHMENT/SYSTEM.....as Wright is doing in his speeches.

This all takes me back (full circle) to some of my earlier comments about this whole Obama for President thing. Unless this man is seen as someone who will maintain the status quo (i.e nurture the white v black advantage) his ass is fried as far as any hope of grabbing the 'Big Prize' is concerned. So either it is a case that he is doing what he has to (i.e woo/cajole Whites into a sense of false security) in order to capture the reigns of power, whilst having a secretly plan (and workable strategy) to address the disparity once in power......OR he is just another politician who cares only for his 'Political Career and the personal benefits to be gained therefrom' and someone who is quite happy to seize whatever benefit he can from peoples (i.e. Blacks) misguided hopes and expectations.

As I said, Politicians and 'Altruism' are not common bed fellowsand you already know how skeptical I am about Politicians (British and Americans alike)?

Respect

The part I highlighted is TOO true. That's why if I were a betting person, I would be inclined to put my money on the idea that the SECOND part of your scenario is most likely the correct one, lol. But here is the kicker, even if it's NOT, so what? There are plenty of politicians who START out with good/noble intentions, they just don't STAY that way, and one of the SUREST ways to make sure they don't stay that way is to NOT HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE and give them CARTE BLANCHE. Politics, particularly in the AMerican version is not meant to be based on FAITH, it's set up to be based on the idea the mofos will be engaged, pay attention, hold people accountable and vote their assses out if they don't do what they were put in office to do. However, because most people are both lazy and dumb, it RARELY works out that way. You're not supposed to have to TRUST a politician as your only recourse, in this system, the fact that the folks who set this system up installed CHECKS AND BALANCES to keep no one person/branch of government from having too much power is PRECISELY because they DIDN'T trust human nature, and knew from personal experience that you COULDN'T, particularly not when it comes to POWER. So what that means is, even a HUMBLE mutherphugger, will become UNHUMBLE(not to mention amnesiastic and overly comfortable), if you don't keep you foot up their a*ss,lol.

I've been watching the John Adams miniseries on HBO. It deals with the American Declaration of Independence/Revolution, etc. I like watching this kind of sH*t, cause it's very instructive. It was very interesting that even after America became a soverign nation, you had SOME folks in the decision making class that basically wanted AMerica to go back to being beholden to the British crown(Alexander Hamilton for instance). You had other people in that group who basically wanted AMerica to exchange the British yoke for a French yoke, because the French had helped AMerica defeat the British(Thomas Jefferson for instance). Then you had certain people who fought against BOTH those schools of thought,(John Adams), and felt that these other 2 totally were off the mark as to what the GOAL of all of the rabble rousing and bloodshed was. what was the point of declaring independence and shedding blood and having your blood shed, just so you could crawl right back up some other people's a*ss,lol. His school of thought won out, btw, otherwise Americans would all have either British or French accents, right about now........

WHat does that have to do with this? you may ask. It has to do with the idea that it's very important to have debate and dissent in any group endeavor, particularly in freedom struggles, or fights for independence, or fights to come out of oppression. It's very important for some amount of critical analysis and critical thinking to be maintained. It's very important that a group of people be CLEAR and UNWAVERING on the goal or the point to whatever the phuck they are doing is, OTHERWISE, they run the risk of ending up like Black folks/Africans,lol..............

Your looking a person who could, IF HE WANTED, redefine the "black agenda" to whatever he pleases. This is something I dont think a white politician could be able to do. That what makes obama of particular concern. If he wanted the "black agenda" to be fighting the War on Terror, I wouldnt be surprised if blacks took it as gospel. Take the Wright incident for example, I find it facinating how black folks was rallying around Wright during few days in the media. As soon as obama through him under the bus, all those nigs who agreed with Wright, followed suit and also threw him under the bus.No questions asked, the lemming metality kicked in. Now Im like wait, wasnt you just cheering for Wright two days ago and now all of sudden hes "ego driven"?? If Bush said what obama did would the reaction be the same. At least if Bush said it, you probably wouldnt have blacks "renegotiating the racial contract" as they do with Barack. People may disagree but if I was choosing between the two dems (which Im not) In all honesty I think Hillary would have more flexiblty in moving forword with issues the liberal black agernda wants. Not that she cares about them more than Barack, but because Barack will be questioned on EVERY little issue that pertains to that black communty. In fact from what I understand (dont quote me on this) its Barack NOT Hillary who wants to redefine Affirmative Action from a historically disadvantaged school of thought to having it based only on poverty. Due to our smaller % of population it would hurt us the most. Soooo..Just some things to think about..

I agree with you about how powerful he'd be, but as you said it wouldn't be just because he became President(there have been plenty of lame duck/impotent Presidents who couldn't get sh*t done, like Jimmy Carter, lol), it would be because you'd have large segments of the population WILLINGLY giving up the ACCOUNTABLITY thing. Blacks because he's BLack and we are lemmings, SOME whites, because they are guilt ridden liberals. The same way people willingly gave up all kinds of rights to W, after 911 because of FEAR. A system of checks and balances only works if people USE it that way, otherwise a person can very well be a de facto dictator, a la Bush and CHeney for the past 7 years.

My instinct and expertise on white folks tells me however, that when the rubber meets the road, they aren't either as oblvious or quite as gullible as we are(I'm talking about REAL white folks, not the liberal/Hollywood elite. That's why they finally snapped out of their stupor of giving Obama a pass, and started finally started questioning him in the last few months. Most of them were never in the stupor in the first place,(the Fox News) type Crackers have BEEN on this from the jump. IT's been the liberal media elite that have been on some other ish, lol, but even THEY haven't totally lost control of their cognitive functioning, and it finally occured to them, hey, this dude is running for President, MAYBE we oughta ask him a serious question or 2, and find out a little more about him, lol.

As Backatya said, the powers that be in this country are not likely to really allow someone who is going to be antithetical to the status quo interfere with their runnings(either the economic or imperialistic ones) or even get CLOSE to the position. That just runs counter to experience and common sense, and history. Particularly a Black person. Either they have it on good authority that the person is going to do their bidding, or they likely would never get to within a stone's throw of the White HOuse in the first place.

It's funny to me, because it's like as time goes on, Black folks are getting dumber rather than smarter. Even during slavery, Black folks understood the idea that white people would occasionally INSTALL someone Black in a certain position of authority and imbue them with certain power,(only as it related to carrying out the white agenda and controlling/speaking for/reporting on BLack folks and our response/behavior though). It was understood that the position only had as much power as Mr. Charlie decided to GIVE it for his own benefit. It was also understood that the BLack person who was given the position almost always took it VERY serious and let it go to his head, lol. THat was so understood by most Black folks that they commonly ridiculed and made jokes about Negroes who were given this "honor', that's where the term HNIC or Head N*gger In Charge, originally comes from, lol. It's not a recent term, it's a very old term.....

Barack Obama: The Kunta Kinte of 2008

I woke up today thinking about the movie “Roots”. The first scene that jumps out at me is the image of Kunta Kinte being beaten because he wants to keep his real name. With each welt of the whip, he got a little weaker, until he finally changed his name to Toby.

Most of us were hit hard by this scene and hurt by it. I am equally hurt when I see Barack Obama, the political Kunta Kinte of 2008.

With each crack of the right wing whip and even some lashes by Hillary Clinton, Obama is being forced to slowly, but surely rip away everything that has helped him identify with being a black man in America. First he has to put a muzzle on his beautiful, intelligent wife, apologizing for the fact that she “misspeaks” in public. Next, he is distancing himself from Louis Farrakhan, a man with whom he had little prior association. Shortly thereafter, he goes into hiding like a broke baby’s daddy on the date of the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s Assassination, all because he didn’t want to appear “too black” for the American public.

Now we have Jeremiah Wright. After 20 years with the same pastor, Kunta Obama suddenly realizes that he made a mistake. It wasn’t sermon number 14, 122 or 1,107 that led him to that conclusion. It was Hillary Clinton and Sean Hannity who helped him see the light. They helped Barack Obama finally realize what should have been obvious from the very beginning: His radical wife needed to be put in her place, Martin Luther King is an embarrassment and his pastor can’t possibly be a true American. Thank God for Sean Hannity.

By the time Obama is done with this election, he will have fully apologized for being a strong black man in America. At that point, the transformation will be complete and Kunta will have no feet. I am only waiting for Hillary Clinton to force him to denounce Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey and Harriet Tubman. After all, they were radical too.

This election surely makes Barack wish that all of his friends were white, perhaps even his wife. Those black people are just too much damn trouble. I might start getting rid of my black friends right now. Can I divorce my mama?

As I see the gobs of email coming in from readers at YourBlackWorld, the division within the black community is in full view. Some are angry at Pastor Wright for “messing up the good thing Obama has going”, while others feel that Pastor Wright should “tell it like it is.” The emails remind me of two women fighting hard over the same lying, trifling man who has learned to play them against one another. Rather than focusing on the real target (the man), the women fall right into the man’s trap, as they both so desperately seek his validation.

The truth is that the women in my example are afraid of being alone. They need him to tell them that they are beautiful. They’ve allowed this vulnerability to be exploited by a socially parasitic individual who preys on the insecurities of others. Black people, and Obama, NEED to be validated by White America. We NEED to get into the White House so that we can feel that we have achieved something. It is this need for validation from whites that leads us to sell our souls and do any tap dance necessary to achieve public approval. The public humiliation, discomfort, and degradation are all worth it in order to achieve the ultimate goal. I would not compare it to pure prostitution, because even prostitutes have limits.

Call me crazy, but I personally believe in a good old fashioned commodity called “integrity”. Integrity says that you don’t go denouncing your relatives because they say things that are displeasing to your audience. A high school kid doesn’t drop his little brother because the “cool kids” don’t like him. I don’t fault Jeremiah Wright for being the man he has been for the past 40 years. I only question Barack Obama, who is not the same man he was 2 years ago. I question America, a country so drunk with its own arrogance that it cannot tolerate people of color (Michelle Obama, Louis Farrakhan, Martin Luther King and Pastor Wright) who speak their mind about our country’s inequities. Every country in the world sees America’s racism. The United Nations writes reports about America’s racism. But America cannot see its own racism and those who see it are afraid to talk about it. That’s just a damn shame.

Were Obama not running for president, Jeremiah Wright would not be a problem. Barack would be going to church and saying “amen” like the rest of us. But the continuous game of psychological twister being thrust upon him by the right wing has forced him to lie as much as any other politician. Perhaps a young Barack Obama thought, in some idealistic way, that just being a good American could get him elected. Like many black men in America, Obama thought that doing the right thing, working hard and being a good person would be enough. But like the rest of us, he gets slapped with the reality that being a black man in America is one of the most unpopular positions on the social totem pole. Only a complete apology and full extraction from where you came from will do the trick: NBA players go through it, black professors go through it and politicians REALLY go through it. Many of us are familiar with the dance, and some of us even like it.

Barack Obama, in my opinion, is not going to win this election. But no matter the outcome, his soul will be weary, weak and depleted. Kunta Obama will have no feet, and he may not even get to be president.

LOL. No, JB I can't take credit for this, but it does approximate my feelings on the matter pretty accurately. The idea that if a Black candidate has to give up so much of what makes him "BLack" and remotely appealing to us,(and different from the white candidates), to get to the "prize', what possible use/good to us is he going to be when/if he gets there?

As a dude from another Board (who is a hardcore Obama supporter and has gone toe to toe with me throughout this campaign, said after Obama denounced Wright_): "if he keeps jumping through the "make white folks comfortable hoops and distancing himself from this or that Black person/event", he'll just be Hillary with a little more melanin". I was stunned that it was Obama's denounciation of WRight that precipitated this dude's epiphany and not some of the earlier red flag things that he and I had gone toe to toe over, and that I felt were far MORE egregious, inexcusable, AND telling, but that's Black folks for ya....
