This is an old artcile ,however I thought people may find it interesting.

First Black Owned and Operated Video Sharing Site, My People TV, Launches

Last year's acquisition of YouTube by Google for $1.65 billion got the attention of a Baltimore filmmaker and Oprah Winfrey protégé.

February 14, 2007 -- As filmmaker Darryl E. Pugh, Sr. watched the YouTube become not just a rising star of the Internet but also a darling of Wall Street with its acquisition by Google last year, he became convinced that the time was right for an idea he had been nurturing in the back of his mind. With the launch of My People TV, Pugh has filled a gaping void in the online video sharing community. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans and other people of color from around the globe can now easily upload, share and view video footage that is of particular interest to one another (My People TV - Broadband Television For People Of Color).

My People TV is the first Black owned and operated video sharing network, with channels that address specific ethnic, racial, religious and political groups. Viewing or sharing videos on the advertising-supported site is free.

The network's channels initially include The Minority Business Channel, The State Of Black America TV, The State of Hispanic America TV, The State of Native America TV, The State Of Asian America TV, The State Of Arab America TV, Constitutional Rights TV, Barack Obama TV, Hillary Clinton TV, John McCain TV, John Edwards TV, Joe Biden TV, It's Entertainment TV, President Clinton TV, The State Of Africa TV, The State of Iraq TV, The State Of America TV, Gospel TV, Jazz TV, Radio One TV, Internet Marketing TV, No Mortgage TV and more. Channels are expected to expand as participants suggest new ideas.

"Our mission is to provide a central location on the Internet where people of color from all over the world can express their voice. If you have a video camera, you have a voice," said MyPeopleTV.com co-founder and CEO Darryl E. Pugh, Sr., a native of Baltimore who says that he has been a student of Oprah Winfrey from the day they first met more than 31 years ago in his hometown.

"For the first time ever, anyone with a video camera or cell phone camera can expose to the world the conditions, issues and challenges that they face in their everyday lives. That's a powerful landmark in the history of civil and human rights," Pugh says.

Most of the current content on the network was produced over a 25-year period by the award-winning husband and wife team who are owners of My People TV. It consists of one-of-a kind, never-before-seen footage of prominent business, political and entertainment figures from the Black community, such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Whitney Houston, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, Andre Harrell, Cathy Hughes, Alfred Liggins, Bob Johnson, Bill Cosby, Spike Lee, Betty Shabazz, Michael V. Roberts, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Bill Clinton, etc.

During the run up to the next national election, My People TV will serve as a central place to focus on presidential candidates. Citizens from around the country are encouraged to keep their cameras rolling at all public venues where the candidates appear.

Each candidate has a dedicated channel where users will be able to upload and view all videos in one location on the site. "We believe that a more informed voter will be a more decisive voter," said Reneé Pugh, co-founder and president of the company.

"We recently launched Shining Star TV where wannabe singers and Karaoke stars can upload their best song(s) and have them rated by our members. Monthly cash and merchandise prizes will be given away beginning in March 2007," Reneé Pugh says.

My People TV was founded by husband and wife team Darryl and Reneé Pugh along with their 28 year old son Darryl, Jr., who runs the satellite office in Long Beach, California. This year, the couple will celebrate 25 years of being in the television and film business and 29 years of marriage.

They are best known as the writers, producers and directors of the nation's first Black "Dynasty, "The Raven" and the award-winning documentary, "Sparrows Point Together Again," which will all be showcased later this month on My People TV.

My People TV is an advertised supported and premium membership site, with offices in Long Beach,California and Southern Maryland. Premium memberships are available to individuals, families and business owners. For a FREE membership and to begin uploading videos immediately, visit the website at My People TV - Broadband Television For People Of Color.
