Jeff Johnson Chronicles Darfur Crisis in BET Special

BET News correspondent Jeff Johnson (known to many as Cousin Jeff) will give America—and the rest of the world—an inside look at the crisis in Darfur this Sunday at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT with Life and Death in Darfur: Jeff Johnson Reports.
The half hour special will examine the crisis that has that has seen thousands of Africans raped, beaten, driven from their homes, and claimed more than 200,000 lives.

Johnson will sit down with actor/activist Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda, Crash, Talk to Me) and will discuss the governments role in the crisis with current Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

He believes the dialogue with Al-Bashir is important to the African American community, who may not always be up on overseas happenings.
“Giving the BET audience an opportunity to hear Omar Al-Bashir (President of the Republic of Sudan) in his own words is a monumental part of this special,” Johnson says. "The African-American community still knows less about the crisis in this region than other communities. It is important that we wake up to not only the pain we experience here, but the shared pain of our brothers and sisters in the rest of the world.”

According to the Sudanese government maintains that it is defending itself from internal and external forces. On the other side, an Arab regime, known as Janjaweed say they are fighting to take back land that is rightfully theirs.
In addition to Al-Bashir and Cheadle, viewers will also hear from Darfurian citizens, other representatives—and sympathizers—of the Sudanese government, humanitarian groups who have seen the crisis first hand as they offer explanations and contradictory viewpoints on the turmoil affecting this region of Africa.

Johnson leaves no stone unturned, examining the who, what, when, where, and why of the four year long conflict.
The situation in Darfur has been labeled a genocide by some activists and also birthed Invisible Children, a documentary highlighting
