Pair found dead at house in city
The bodies of a man and a woman have been found at a house in Leeds.
Police said the deaths at the property in Hanover Square, Woodhouse, which is close to the city's two universities, were being treated as suspicious.
Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1900 GMT on Sunday, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said.
Post-mortem tests are due to take place later on Monday. Officers said they were still trying to trace relatives of the victims.
'Nice' couple
Hanover Square lies in an area of terraced housing popular with students because of its proximity to both the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University, as well as the city centre.
The property where the bodies were found remained cordoned off on Monday as police carried out investigations.
Students Andrew Stanley and Michael Bird live next door to the house.
Mr Stanley, 19, a second year student at Leeds University, said the couple were of African origin and were always friendly and polite.
He said: "There was only a couple who lived at the house, as far as I was aware.
"There used to be loud music occasionally but otherwise they were fine.
"They would say hello. They were quiet and seemed genuinely nice people."
Mr Bird described how police descended on the area on Sunday night.
"The police came from nowhere and sealed off both ends of the street just after 7pm.
"Then the forensics arrived and forensic teams entered the house," he said.
"It's a quite a shock, really. You don't expect anything like this to happen. We'd like to find out what happened and get some closure."
Local shopkeeper Raj Patel said a man and woman from the house used his shop quite frequently.
He said he thought they had been there about three years.
"They seemed polite and nice. They never caused any problems," he added.
