Gang rapists 'throw acid on schoolgirl to hide DNA evidence'

15th January 2008 A schoolgirl was left fighting for her life after she was gang-raped and then had caustic soda poured over her body to destroy DNA evidence.

The 16-year-old was left fighting for her life with terrible burns from the drain-cleaning chemical, following her terrifying ordeal.

She was rushed to a specialist burns unit and has been heavily sedated.

Sickened police have called the attack by five youths a new low as they documented what had happened to the young girl.

The gang beat the teenager before taking turns to rape her in an empty house in Tottenham, North London.

One detective said: "After they had finished raping her, the gang poured caustic soda over the girl to try and get rid of DNA evidence.

"It was the most horrific thing imaginable and the girl sustained serious burns.

"This is about as low as it gets."

A female police officer living next door was alerted by the victim's cries and she then treated her until medical help arrived.

Another neighbour said: "I heard a woman screaming, 'Help, I've been raped' and saying she had been burned. She sounded in a lot of pain."

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "The gang get up to no good.

"They told me they took the girl and broke into the house and that one of them threw water over her - but I have heard it was acid."

Doctors had feared that the girl would die but she pulled through and is now stable in a burns unit in Billericay, Essex, but she is still not well enough to speak to officers.

A police source said: "She has appalling injuries from which she will never fully recover.

"We believe it will be another two weeks before we can interview her."

Police today charged a teenage boy over the attack.

The 17-year-old boy, from Tottenham, has been accused of rape and grievous bodily harm, Scotland Yard said.

The youth will appear in custody at Haringey Magistrates' Court later today

Very few crimes make me ashamed these days, but this one is definately one that falls into this category.

One man has been charged. lets hope he coughs up the names of the other scumbags and they are all put away

Micah was being rowdy being a lad but this definitely befits the 'animal' tag...Weren't this scum meant to be in school or something as i mentioned in the Brixton killing you cannot keep making excuses for this animals they do it because they think or know they can get away with it

Well they may think they can get away with it, but these days they get catch by the police within couple of days. I think there's a lot of people out there who have completely lost the plot.

this crime, and even the previous orange case, sound too much like revenge attacks to me. i don't think the people who became targets were the intended victims, rather the vehicle by which vengeance was expressed. that acid thing doesn't even look like it was CSI in the moment decision, but premeditated, and I doubt the guys caught, one who was at the clinic because he swallowed a coin, have anything to do with what happened.

Whole story first, can bet they didn't purposely use acid to wash away any evidence not as though someone has stood up and said it. Its a sensasionalist spin.

First off, this is horrific.

Secondly, the reporting is showing up serious faults. How can a woman who has been near to death, therefore a victim of what was a potential murder enquiry, have her wherabouts exposed? This 'story' makes absolute no-sense. A gang who apparently hangs around a lot will already be known, people report this as anti-social behaviour, they may well be on CCTV, but they have only found one person of the gang. I don't get it, she was near to death, but the perpetrator has only been done for GBH? Somehting nah right.

Quite cold. It's like there's some kind of competition to see who can be the most gruesome.
