Default honestly, what did clinton REALLY do for blacks in america - 18-01-08, 07:00 AM

is it just me being unaware, or what the hell has clinton really done for black americans that they all seem to suck his balls like BBQ chicken, and give him stupid titles like "the first black president" etc etc,

here's what i have :

1: he's a democrat, and thats traditional (lord i wonder why) black voting ground

2: he showed emotion in black churches claiming he feels their pain

3: he presided over america at a time of economic upheaval, and a good economy and a relatively peaceful time, and as a result, all of america (including blacks) enjoyed the benefits of this

4: he made welfare reforms that made black americans enjoy more

5: he cheated..i mean....played his wife and said it wasnt him

6: he later confessed it was and ran back to the black churches seeking support, and they told him they feel HIS pain

7: he's from the south, and likes chicken

8: according to BET founder, HE (clinton) has dated more black women than obama

9: he appointed black people to his cabinet (didnt bush even go further?)

thats all i have... so are these the "high" esteems black people hold their politicians to, and clinton having ticked all the boxes is now made an honorary black man??? cos i really dont get the whole "hes down with us" crap i hear.

school me please... thanks

1: he's a democrat, and thats traditional (lord i wonder why) black voting ground
We've been voting republican longer than we have democrat

2: he showed emotion in black churches claiming he feels their pain
Its called pandering..Its effective for SOME blacks especially if their over 55

3: he presided over america at a time of economic upheaval, and a good economy and a relatively peaceful time, and as a result, all of america (including blacks) enjoyed the benefits of this..Some misguided people think he specifically helped blacks but yes everyone was doing well during the stock market BUBBLE he presided over.

4: he made welfare reforms that made black americans enjoy more
He scaled back welfare which black establishment were AGAINST..Although it ultimatley help because it put the lazy bums to work.

5: he cheated..i mean....played his wife and said it wasnt him
Some say this is what makes him "black" which is what I find highly insulting

6: he later confessed it was and ran back to the black churches seeking support, and they told him they feel HIS pain...More pandering, thats his thing

7: he's from the south, and likes chicken
Im a northerner but I find blacks in the south have an affinty for anything southern, even thier politicans. Not sure where you got the chicken thing from.

8: according to BET founder, HE (clinton) has dated more black women than obama
Andrew Young said this, not Bob J.Very insulting to me as a black American

9: he appointed black people to his cabinet (didnt bush even go further?)
Nope..He had almost no black people in his cabinet. G.W. Bush had the most diverse cabinet in American History and BY FAR had more blacks..You only know about Condi and Colin but bush had about 3 or 4 more blacks in his executive cabinet overseeing domestic things.

thats all i have... so are these the "high" esteems black people hold their politicians to, and clinton having ticked all the boxes is now made an honorary black man??? cos i really dont get the whole "hes down with us" crap i hear.

Truth is the media tells everything from a white point of view. They over exaggerate our love for clinton..The whole "black president" thing started off as a joke Paul Mooney told about his infidelity and the media ran with it. No one really sees him as black as far as I know. Hillary will not get the "black vote" I dont even know why the media acts like she will.

He was instrumental in getting the laws changed in which crack users/dealers get longer sentences in jail as opposed to cocaine powder. That was the bone that he threw to the corporate prisons. A never ending stream of black free labor.

"they all suck his balls"?
what do you base these claims on? a few comedians doing routines? you sound silly.....

Clinton's support is based on a few things. First he was one of the first modern presidents who didn't come from money..in fact he came from poor background and elevated himself in one generation from rural southern poor to President of the United States.

If Black people here are gonna relate to a white person....often it's a self made person who is seen as having struggled.

Clinton has the charm and oratory skills that Black people here have desired from leadership...We grow up in the Black church and are used to seeing eloquent charismatic men in leadership positions.

In politics...modern times,.Democrats are seen as the lesser of 2 evils.......the best advertising for democrats is republicans...and their blatant hostility towards non whites.....and the public faces of conservatism...limbaugh, buchanan..
Democrats are usually a better alternative ...in the 2 party system over here.

It's all big song and dance...at the end of the day...politicians work for the lobbyists who get them in office and keep them there......we fall for symbolism and pandering...and in the end not much gets done.

no i dont sound silly i said you mostly SEEM to suck his balls (and im speaking metaphorically), and impact player seems to agree for the most part. comedians may have started it, but YOU will sound silly if you claim this notion of bill clinton being so highly accepted or regarded in the black american community is not really true and only exists in comedians minds, bcos its more than that.
i have always wondered why he got so much 'love' bcos i coudlnt see anything really tangible apart from what you have just mentioned and impact player mentioned.. which in a nutshell is rather him than republicans and he played the tune well.

where are you from man in mirror?

what perceptions about your country exist in the media?

Even in the broadest stereotype is true in at least 1% of the cases.....so whatever stereotype exists about your country...or place you live is true about 1% of the population.

Should people just turn with that stereotype and run on a forum and phrase a question like you did

"Why do (insert nationality) all do (insert perception)?"..sounds incredibly silly...

The Democrats are generally the lesser of 2 evils.....Clinton wasn't born with silver spoon, he's a singularly charismatic man and a great public speaker, economy boomed during his terms,.........even a person who never stepped foot in this country could answer the question you posed.

Politics is a big song and dance.....where the image often means more than the policies and decisions.....

and the main thing is , it's 2 party system here....one party is gonna shoot you with a bazooka, the other with a .22

most people would choose the .22 because you have a chance to survive with .22 bullet.........

It baffles me too but impactplayer and Drothej have touched on some points who knows also likely black people remembered how miserable their lives were under Reagan as opposed to Clinton....I know Michael Moore can be a bit biased in his writings but theres no denying some of the stuff he dug up on Clinton rubbishing the 'black president' nonsense....

one will need a bigger lie to cover the first one

Come on D, you know it' acceptable on this Board for non AA's to conclude that they REALLY know all there is to know about AA's based on:rap music/white media/reading a few books and watching a documentary or 2. It doesn't matter if they really don't know jacksh*t about us,lol., but woe unto us if we comment on non AA's,too presumptiously, even if we are on the money........

Beyond that, people in general are stupid and lazy. I've heard AA's regurgitate perceptions about AA public figures TOTALLY based on some sh*t they heard from the white and sometimes Black media. Never check it out for themselves. For instance, I've heard some AA's during this campaign say that they are glad that Obama is running cause they are sick of Black figures like Sharpton who only talk about "Black victimhood". When you tell them that Sharpton usually only gets involved in something after being ASKED to, by BLack people who have had their asses whipped by the police, had someone in their family killed by the police for no reason characterized by 41 warning shots into and un armed person, had someone in their family get a plunger jammed up their rectum by the police, or after being railroaded in the criminal justice system like in Jena and ask them how does THAT make Him a promoter or seeker of 'victimhood"? I would say that the white policemen and white criminal justice system agents who VICTIMIZE BLack folks are the promoters of Black vicitimhood.........

When you ask them have you ever listened to the myriad speeches and panel sessions where Sharpton is taking Blacks to task for not voting, taking rappers to task for using the N-word and disrespecting Black women? or ASk them can they give an example of his supposed perpetual harping on "BLack victimhood", they can't. You know why?, because most of the time, they've never even listened to the man . They solely go by what some white person or Negro media proxy TELLS them dude is about, and then are ready to pull an opinion out of their ass, like it matters, lol.

The Democrats are generally the lesser of 2 evils.....Clinton wasn't born with silver spoon, he's a singularly charismatic man and a great public speaker, economy boomed during his terms,.........even a person who never stepped foot in this country could answer the question you posed.

Perfect analogy.

You and Impact covered it. The main thing is that Black folks are a vibe people, and Clinton like most white Southeners(particularly ones from poor or humble backgrounds like his ) is very accustomed to and comfortable around Black folks. It's that lack of "alien or other" vibe that BLacks sensed from him, that we usually don't sense from white people, be they presidents or trash collectors, that caused there to be an affinity of sorts. BEyond that, why is everyone acting like Black folks are the only ones to like Slick Willie? EVERYBODY liked Slick Willie. Even people like Cracker ass Trent Lott, conservative Republican said that eventhough he disagrees with Clinton on just about everything imaginable, it is very difficult NOT TO LIKE him, especially if you meet him. It's called having charm, mojo, etc. Some people have that, some people don't. Even after he was impeached, his popularity rating was high. PEOPLE tend to like Bill Clinton, and last time I checked.....AA's....were.....people.........

p.s. Thanks for the comment on welfare reform ac. That's another presumption and an insulting one at that, that All AA's would have a problem with welfare reform. Welfare reform was needed. We oughta thank Clinton for that, real talk. I also don't necessarily agree that the sentencing inequities for crack and powdered cocaine were without merit. Powered cocaine did not have the murder/mahem/violence associated with it that crack did. That shit was a scourge on our community and I'm not inclined to shed too many tears over people who were/are involved in it,(and i have relatives who were involved in it), having to sit their ass in jail. I'm for the death penalty too, but that's another topic for another day. All Negroes don't identify with/get misty eyed over, crime and criminals, quiet as it's kept.......

i dont see what the ranting is, but since you have decided to be patronising , lets go there. i havent concluded anything about my knowledge about AA issues or politics, but i think what the real issue is that you and others who complain like you are perhaps somewhat taken aback that you can even discuss this with british residents. i do not subscribe to the whole 'americans dont travel or know anywehre outside the US' crap that is normally thrown by europeans, but wether you like it or not there is some truth to it,

so apart from the fact that half my family lives in atlanta, and that i have been spending time beyond a 2 week holiday in the us for the last 10yrs, i do apologise for not seeking your permission as an african american to discuss anything AA or even make assumptions that show better knowledge than those who can only come up with "they have bad teeth"

i mean even when you are discussing certain people, the fact that you say something along the lines of "we have someone or something called blah blah blah" which is quite sweet of you, but in most cases people were already aware of it even if just by reading about it, not to mention how many times the british media stuff our faces with american affairs we dont even need to give a shit about, but hey its thrown at us so we watch/listen..regardless of how true, but its far better than what you guys get over there about us so dont be mad that even if "you are on the money" WE still got some dollars and cents in our pockets and you most likely dont have the pound

the point had already been explained well, dunno why you decided be smart about it.

"is it just me being unaware, or what the hell has clinton really done for black americans that they all seem to suck his balls like BBQ chicken, and give him stupid titles like "the first black president" etc etc,"

You start out your original post with the above, but you haven't CONCLUDED ANYTHING ABOUT AA ISSUES OR POLITICS. Really???????????Plenty of AA's thought and think that comedians and authors like Toni Morrison WERE STUPID FOR EVER MAKING THAT 'FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT" comment. There were myriad AA's who were offended by it because it equated PATHOLOGIES(eating junk food, cheating on your wife, lying, smoking weed) to being Black, not to mention that it is absurd on it's face. I was listening to MIke Baisden's radio show today, and plenty of people were pissed because that "1st Black president" nonsense was brought up in last night's debate. Your opening comment was insulting, condenscending, patronizing, not to mention WRONG and off the mark. You shouldn't be surprised when people respond in the same tone you came to the discussion with.

I'm not at all taken aback that British people have nothing better to do than obsess over what goes on an ocean away from them. I think it's cute, as long as ya'll don't get beside yourselves with it. AMerica is a VAST place, there are people in some parts of AMERICAwho don't know what other people in OTHER partS of AMERICA are doing, much less know or care what people outside AMerica are doing. Besides being vast, it's somewhat isolated, bordered on each side by oceans. It's very geography lends itself to insularity and isolation.

BTW, I know PLENTY about the runnings in the UK. Have taken an interest in it every since I found out there were Black folks there, many moons ago. However, just because I own a bunch of: Loose Ends,Five Star, Cookie Crew,Junior, albums and watched Eastenders and Desmond's for many years, doesn't make me an expert on all things British, now does it????? It certainly doesn't give me the right to start threads posing asinine insulting, LOADED questions, that contain evidence that I ALREADY THINK I know the answer, to the fake ass question I'm pretending to be asking................

"I ain't scared of u mutherphug
