Kennedy's backing Obama & other questions -
29-01-08, 01:13 AM
Do you all think that this will have a profound effect on Obama's chances in the big one coming up?
How do you think the Clinton's will respond to this Kennedy approval?
Should Edwards drop out now or do you think the vote sucker upper will do one of the candidates in by his being involved in the race?
Do you think that Obama could go up against McCain?
How scared is everyone at McCain being elected President or any Republican for that matter?

@ safety
I dont know. Seems like a 'sexy' endorsement I think being endorsed by governers(etc) in redneck states would do more for Obama, although it most certainly wouldnt hurt him to be endorsed by the iconic kennedy family
Clinton will be devastated. They are meant to be cool with the Kennedy's . I bet if I research I will found that they endorsed Bill. Hard luck love!
Edwards. He is gonna have both Obama and Clinton where he wants them come the convention. He knows what he is doing. Absolutely no point dropping out now
Obama could go up against anybody, although McCain is the most difficult. I have heard that him and Clinton keep name checkin him apparently in he hope that republicans get irked and vote for someone else. Not the most sophisticated piece of analysis I have ever heard but I'm sure there is some merit to it. youth v expereince. War hero v war pacificst and of course white v black. I think this race would be close but how close, well that depends on how Obama does in the redneck states and how McCain does as well. All sorts of conservatives have got beef with him. I also think that if it 'kicks off' anywhere in the world around election time, like say that Iranian dude tries to big up his chest regarding his nuclear expansion, that could possibly play into McCain's hand, assuming he won the nomination
As for your last question, not qualified to respond
You ever heard of the Golden Rule. He who has the gold makes the rules!
He who asks is a fool for five minutes. He who never asks remains a fool for ever.

Despite what the polls say McCain is the weakest candidate and will likely lose..His campaign is being propped up by the media. He has yet to get the majority of conservative vote in a primary. most conservatives will sit out if hes nominated
How scared is everyone at McCain being elected President or any Republican for that matter? If McCain is nominated Ill vote for anyone opposite him. McCain is a liberal who is pro-war. Im the exact opposite, so he is EXTREMELY scary to me. I expect several additional years in Iraq/Iran, Amnesty for illegals, and more push for a European-like conservatism..If Obama, Romney or Huckabee isnt on the ballot I wont bother to vote unless of course McCain is on there. Hes is the architect of the amnesty bill. His name was on the damn thang. And he'll be President? If he wins its best I start early and try to pass as a Dominican and try to get accepted by latinos b4 its too late.

The Kennedy name resonates with African/Black-Americans(already overwhelmingly in Obama's corner), well-educated whites(already in Obama's corner), Northeastern liberals(already in Obama's corner), and Kennedy dynasty followers, mostly white women(not in Obama's corner). Obama needs to reach populist whites, white women and Latino voters; this does little to help him with those constituencies in my opinion. Endorsements have been shown to have minimal impact when polling has been done on their impact. Look at how little endorsements from prominent African/Black-American figures did for Hillary in South Carolina; they didn't help at all. So, I see this as having little impact on Obama’s overall appeal to the voters that he needs to attract. Also, Obama’s trying to avoid the “liberal” tag, and this endorsement doesn’t help with centrists democrats. In short, it’s a nice endorsement for attentions sake, but, probably, little else.

If I was their campaign advisor, I would tell them to spin it like this: “the candidate for “change” was endorsed by the Kennedy’s.” “How much potential for “change” is he really bringing to the table?”

As long as Edwards is in the race he will keep white votes away from Clinton. He gets a paltry 4% of the vote in Nevada and Hillary gets a victory. He goes home to South Carolina, basically splits the white vote, gets 18% of the total vote, and Hillary loses big.

McCain has appeal to independents(a core demographic for Obama). Both Hillary and Obama are/will be “lightning rod” candidates for conservatives, for entirely different reasons, so I don’t see a poor turnout happening from conservatives, regardless the unease they feel for McCain; he’s still ‘one of them.’ McCain is soft on illegal immigration; Latinos aren’t down with Obama for the most part. McCain is soft on illegal immigration; most African/Black-Americans and right leaning whites want much tougher policy with regard to illegal immigrants, neither democrat offers much different, unfortunately. However, Obama, because of his dismal showing in the Latino community, offers the best potential for a strategic change towards the Latino vote among the Democrats in the general election, but that’s a stretch; his campaign has not shown itself to be reactionary(on their platform at least). Smart money would go on McCain.

"Scared?" A little more than 2/3 of my life has been spent under Reagan, Bush Sr. and W.; I’ll survive(probably thrive). However, I won’t like it for the majority of my people or global affairs, that's for sure.
