Update: Mitcham man faces murder charge
A 37-year-old man has appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of Mitcham dad David Martin.
Mr Martin, a 40-year-old window cleaner, was found dead in the front garden of a house in Rutter Gardens, round the corner from his Ravensbury Grove home, about 7.10pm on Sunday after police were called to reports of a disturbance.
A postmortem examination at St George's Hospital yesterday gave the cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.
Gary Andrew Kelly, of Rutter Gardens, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court charged with Mr Martin's murder.
Kell, who was wearing a white t-shirt, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth, during the brief hearing.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on May 7.
A woman charged in connection with the incident, Kay Scrivener, 41, also of Rutter Gardens, was yesterday remanded in custody on one charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.
She is due to reappear at Kingston Crown Court on February 12.
Mr Martin's wife of 16 years, Angela, yesterday described her husband as "a fun-loving, happy, gentle giant" who loved his children - two daughters and a son aged 10, 12 and 14.
"David was a family man who would do anything for anyone, even going without or putting himself last," Mrs Martin, 39, said.
"He leaves three young children who adored him. We all, including his extended family, are devastated by what has happened.
"We will miss him terribly."

I'm sorry, but do you honestly think he knocked on his neighbour's door and said "Excuse me, but would you mind awfully giving back my son's ball he so negligently kicked into your garden"?, or am I guilty of stereotyping him as a Millwall football fan by looks alone???
