Choice DJ Geoff Schumann axed by Capital bosses

The story is true, I heard it myself yesterday.

I am not sure of the reasons. He wouldn't really give any detals as to why he has been axed.

I'm not a fan of Geoff Schumman..however let me take a wild stab in the dark as to why he got el booto.... Recently I noticed he has delved into more and more BLACK issues...and having BLACK guests on his show....I could be wrong but I somehow think these could be a prime reason....

That's basically it really. He didn't come out and say it on air but he was dropping hints. In fact he and couple of other presenters were saying last year that they may not survive 2008 and looks like Geoff is one of them to go - I think others have disappeared along with him.

He couldn't read out any of the texts and emails he got last night so it sounds like a lot of people were cussing hard.

But Eddie Nestor get's a reprieve for "playing the game" and notice how Dotun's has become more "inclusive". But Geoff wasn't having any of it and the outcome was predictable. The agenda must be clear for everyone to see now. How many pirate stations got shut down last week?

NEWSFLASH:....the BBC is a WHITE organisation, its remit is NOT to advance or articulate BLACK issues.... If people seriously want to have Black presenters discussing BLACK issues then they should either support BLACK radio stations or better still demand a refund on their TV license...

I am sorry, but I cannot defend Goeff Schuman - he was an embarrassment to black intelligence, sometimes I tried to listen, but I always ended up having to switch off. His Sunday night show has been replaced by Eddie Nestor; and I am sure it will be an improvement; though as K stated, I dont expect that much from BBC London.

Can someone please explain to us how can we have SKY or Cable and not pay TV license??...respect has to be taken seems everyone takes us for granted no other group of people sit back and take this shit....look at our politcians we support them and all do fuc*all yet we go vote them right back in...whats wrong with us?? why cant we mobilise our enterprenuerial spirit??...the AAs have that on lock YTs know about that AA dollar power we have it but we act like some weakling like we got no rights it seems like we don't even know our own rights damnit!!

Agreed. I'm ready for action now, talking time done. The closing down of community radio stations, the situation with the John Loughborough school and this and many other examples is a full frontal attack on the African community and quite frankly, a major PISS TAKE because they feel they can get away with it.

The one positive thing about all of this is that maybe NOW our people will finally wake up and make those of us who already know the score MORE DETERMINED.

I remember when that idiot editor of The Voice called for more stop and search a few years ago and collectively we all wrote an official letter or protest to the BBC and others and they had to take notice. It's about time we make them know we know the score and aren't going to take this lying down.

We need to DO SOMETHING so let's start it NOW!!

If they want to browse our forums and quote us in their rag nazi newspapers like they did with the Brum fiasco then let them, they're free to quote this all they want, as long as they spell our usernames right.

That's my point @ K, a protest letter would only be the start of things to come from our community......

to raise more awareness what about a letter to the voice or New Nation with the email to address our concerns to BBC london..people with more experience with this situations should put forward a strategic form of action...we enjoy the community radios why don't we ever put enough funds together to make them go legit??..or more to the point why aren't they canvassing for funds??...we love freebies too much its time to support our own!!

Actually That is NOT a bad idea..Ok if that is what people want...I suggest people bullet point of post their concerns ON THIS THREAD and I'll be happy to summerise in a letter from this community and SEND it to the NN, the Voice and the BBC .....

Yes, I do think Eddie Nestor will be a big improvement on Geoff Schmann - there is no competition between them. I used to listen to Eddie Nestor yrs ago when he was on Choice FM (before it was sold off to Capital); His show was in the early hrs of the morning & he was 'very deep'. I am fully aware as his is now on prime time; he is not allowed to touch such issues; and as I said I do not expect BBC London to educate me on black issues (I also tune in to black owned stations) but I think there is still a role for black presenters on mainstream radio - as long as they present themselves as intelligent (which Mr Schumann does not).

BTW, As Mr Schumann is being replaced by Eddie Nestor - I dont understand what the issue is here?

Did he? I must have missed that one.....I thought you said you stopped listening to Radio London?? Did anyone ring in and challenge him on that point? I cant believe he said that - but Im not really a regular listener.

We are a minority group, I'm all in for this anti-license thing as long as it's not in the belief we'd be hurting their pockets but more out of principle. Our minority money reflects the shows the BBC provide for us, it wouldn't be missed by them so let's prove their media wouldn't be missed by us....think about it now, no more Eastenders.

Where did people get the info that Eddie Nestor willbe replacing Schumann ?

Eddie Nestor is already doing the Sunday morning Talkshow from 9am -12.


I notice Valley Fontaine has also been missing. I assume she has also been given the boot.
