Default The politics of hypocracy......Zimbabwe Vs China - 06-04-08, 07:55 AM

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Tibetan monk speaks out

Am I the only one noticing the different positions being adopted by the UK government and the world when it comes to China and Zimbabwe....? At the moment we have wall to wall coverage of Zimbabwe and Mugabe's behaviour.... The PM Mr Brown has snubbed a recent Commonwealth gathering because he refuses to be in the presence of Mr Mugabe... and the UK government is doing all it can to ensure that the ECB cricket authority do not tour Zimbabwe....

Funny then that China who in my view are committing far worse atrocities in Tibet and has a human rights record akin to Stalinist Russia..is getting off with kids gloves...Suddenly the word 'boycott' is a dirty word when it comes to the Olympics, suddenly the word 'invasion' is NOT a possibility..and I do not hear Mr Brown talking about boycotting the Olympics...in fact he is strangely silence on China...

Could it be that this disjucture in behaviour towards Zimbabwe and China is nit just the politics of hypocracy but also the politics of western bullies..who feel free to bully and dictate to Countries like Zimbabwe, Iraq whom they can flex their muscle upon..yet countries like America, isreal or China who have a political, economical or military superiority over the hypocritical West..suddenly their moral courage goes walkabout and is up for debate...

I'm not a fan of Mugabe..in fact it is obvious that far from being the Hero that many far Blacks make him out to be..he is nothing but another African dictator in power for himself and his cronies...That said I find the hypocracy in which his behaviour is being reported to that of people of Pinochet who was lorded by Thatcher, and Saddam who was lorded by everyone until he felt out of favour and now China who appears to be getting a license because the West is too scared of offending them the height of weakness and moral cowardice...

you know, i was just thinking this last night when i was watching the run the gauntlet- I mean Olympic torch procession through London.....
that was comical.....' it was like an episode of the old gladiators...

but yes, the western governments have world wide sporting and political boycotts of Zimbabwe but not china...? not to mention ignoring corrupt oil rich Nigeria. or when bush stole the election from gore , or non democratic Saudi Arabia. I could go on.

the so called 'smart sanctions' imposed on the Mugabe’s leadership were also imposed on ‘30 entities'

Bush extends Zimbabwe sanctions : Mail & Guardian Online

presumably government related... government entities which people in general need to survive.....when in the history of 'sanctions' has it ever worked,:

Well, this is no surprise at all. The West chooses and picks what it deems beneficials to its interest. As a result, freedom fighters are termed as ‘Terrorist” depending on which side the West stands on. The Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka who are a minority and fighting for their rights as labeled as ‘Terrorist” by the West. So are the Kurds in Turkey, who are mistreated, denied the right to speak their language and practice their culture and when they resisted this basic human rights, the Kurds are outlawed as “Terrorists” by the West. Experience should teach us never to reveal our true agenda, until we achieve our aims and goals. Mugabe could have received tremendous support from within Zimbabwe, Africa and the African Diaspora had he not alienated so many Zimbabweans in the process. Many mistakes were made along the way and land distribution is critical issue which I support. But the process could have be done much more efficiently and effectively, instead it was bungled and made Africans look like the laughing stock. The way the land issue was bungled reminded me of the time of Idi Amin when Indians were kicked out and their properties distributed to people who can’t even managed to run a kiosk, leave alone a store and the economy when south partly due to this bungledation.

Military prowess, simple.

They'd be all over China if they weren't' a force to be reckoned with. Having Nuclear capability is enough to ensure certain people listen rather than talk.

China is making headway fast through intimidation and bullying, no different from anyone else with no insight aiming to uplift themselves; ousting and slaying the tibetan monks. Feeble response from the west - 'its showtime olympics' ; ' 'chill out' (is the modus operandi) olympics is about fun and unity!. Modern exploitation in Africa is overlooked as the next superpower take expoitation to another level, again voiceless and powerless victims fighting for human rights; (food shelter and hope) are overlooked. Times change, do people in power? The public easily fooled by propaganda and the next muppet ex-olympic athlete - Black female no less saying politics should sty out of olympics - foolish words can from blinkered self centred, self serving priveliged whether Black of White.

Is interesting how people seem to come out in force for the cause in Tibet while some of our countries suffer from the worst atrocities and nothing is heard of it.

Hardly anyone scaling buildings for Congo or anything of the sort in regards to the other countries actions... not that it'd be aired but theres no disruption to service as it were.... the French moaning about china, wanting to boycott the olympics while gunning down peoples right to vote in West Africa is past hypocritical.... guess Tibet has the worlds best spokes person.
