Default Is She Really Beautiful to *Us*??? - 14-04-08, 02:07 PM

I ask this question about the new Africana winner of the Miss America pageant, Crystle Stewart out of the state of Texas.

Granted, she is an attractive woman, but as usual our women are only recognized as beautiful when they perpetuate the European standard of beauty well. Other such women who perpetuate it well are Vanessa Williams and Tyra Banks, where Williams coincidentally won the Miss America pageant and Banks is considered a "supermodel" in succeeding to perpetuate European beauty standards.

My question is do you think Crystle Stewart, the new Miss America is really beautiful?

Considering the perpetuation of European beauty standards by Crystle Stewart, in a long line of others like Vanessa Williams and Tyra Banks, should we be proud of these women's "achievements"?

Dark skin, full lips and natural hair gets mad play in black america. To answer the topic though, she is average at best.

Why would a 70 year old white beauty pageant hold any weight? We have black pageants and there you see every hue, hairstyle ect...This show means nothing.

Why because she's light in color?

Shemsi,
I think that Crystal is pretty. Far as she, I didn't think that he skin color (literally) had any thing to do with their pick. There have been some Darker Skinned Miss Americas/USA. Kenya Moore was a Miss USA. She was brown skinned. There were two other Mrs. America's that weren't that light. I would have said that in the past, but now, it seems that Black Miss USA's/ Americas are becoming commonplace.

If you ask me why I think she got it? She looks too much like Beyonce and she is from Texas(????). She also was a graceful walker to Rihanna's music.

They did an interview with her family and both parents are black. Both of Beyonces parents are black. Im not sure why some here are acting like there is some sort of standard carbon copy black look. What "black features" is she missing? Maybe someone needs to post a picture of a typical black american female.

This is what 'black' america looks like is isn't it? What did you expect, dark skin, full lips and a head full of natural afro hair?

I don't think that is very fair to say, as you can see from my signature the hue of both me and my woman. Neither of us are of mixed race, both of Africano parentage where neither of us even know of any European antecedents in our family tree. Yet, we both have afros, but we don't have dark skin. Does that make us any less African? I think not...

How many of the contestants in the 'black' pageants have weaves or wigs or straight hair?

I agree as well that it is relevant. Even in the so called "Black" pageants, most of our sisters are still imitating Europeans with 10 pounds of weave.

Should we care about the entire competitive BEAUTY Contest crap?

Do you ever think the entire comptition business is to get people's minds focused in the WRONG DIRECTION?

Trust your enemy to tell you to compete in a way that he controls? YEAH RIGHT!

That gets how many Black women spending how much money to distort their appearance to conform to whose standard? Look at all the White women with eating disorders. Letting other people tell you what to think is always a problem.

I don't think I said she was chosen because of her skin color, although the lighter you are the more it helps.

LOL...you hit the nail on the head. Actually, trusting your enemy to tell you to compete in any way that he controls, whether dealing with beauty, politics, economics, or any social organization is just neurotic.

agree

people who seek out validation from those who they feel are their oppressors are confused, in my opinion.
